Welcome to a new thing I'm tryin'. It's for everyone here to let their ideas be heard-which is a great thing, so long as everyone respects every one else's opinion(s). I don't think it would even cause too many arguments, because the topics discussed are general things, and I don't think many people are religiously attached to those things (unlike the support of certain authors, brands, et cetera).
I will give a subject, then the question for that subject. Everyone is free to give their opinion. Either while giving your opinion, or after you do, you must tell why you have that opinion. There will be no "empty-thinking" here. Sometimes we don't have science to back up our opinion, and that is okay-once again just tell why you reached your opinion. Along with telling us why you have your opinion, then state what makes it better than the others. Today's topic is:
TRAINING ENVIRONMENT
Which is the best for your body as a whole?
When I refer to the body being a whole, I am referring to the general health of the human body; i.e. the speed of recovery, the prevention of sickness, the rate of hypertrophy; the improvement of the system. The environment that you have choice to is an air-conditioned building (either no sunlight-i.e. artificial illumination or sunlight), an air-conditioned building with access to fresh air (artificial lighting or sunlight), or a building with access to both fresh air and sunlight (garage or shed).
This is now my opinion on it. I believe that a person would benefit more from having access to fresh air and sunlight. We are nothing more than an animal (albeit an unique, complicated one), and we are built with the need of sunlight and air. I come to this conclusion because air has all the necessary gases that are a prerequisite for life, and being in an air-conditioned room circulates bacteria-something fresh air does not. Sunlight is beneficial in that it causes the production of Vitamin D, and in moderate amounts can give you a nice tan. Over-illumination is also a problem for some that stay in articifial lighting for too long. I, for one, feel crappy when not spending nearly my whole day in natural light.
Another reason I choose this opinion is because the environment I choose to lift weights allows me to harden my body to the elements (I lift in my shed). I do not have a heater or A/C, but I do have two fans that have just enough power to circulate air from the outside. The shed has a large door, and I continually keep it open. In a hot season like now, when it is 108 degrees here, inside my shed it is around 4-5 degrees hotter (I used an indoor thermometer), and of course cold in the winter months. Whereas I hear everyone complaining of the hotness or coldness of the weather, my body has been adapted to the varying changes in the weather, thus improving my body as whole. Noticing this, I believe that people can adapt to air-conditioning, thus causing a greater risk for heat-stroke and hypothermia when they have to work in the elements.
I conclude that a structure that has access to fresh air, sunlight, and does not protect one from the varying temperatures of the seasons is best for the human body as a whole.
Edit: I would also like to note that I do not live in the city, and when home I prefer to open my bedroom window and keep the A/C off (I stay in my bedroom). I do not have to worry about pollution. I believe fresh air is beneficial even when not exercising.
