German archaeologists recently deciphered a marble tablet found at the Roman town of Alexandria Troas (Turkey). What was the Roman secret creating the best Olympians? Flogging them for poor performance.
It seems that little has changed over the last two millenia - sex and drugs are favorite pastimes for athletes:
Quote:
The experts, who deciphered the 1800-year-old marble plate with the rules set out by Hadrian, said athletes caught living the high life by "drinking too much or womanising" instead of practising were whipped for being "undisciplined".
We hit with sticks. Is that still considered flogging?
I wonder what the performance enhancing substances of the day were?
Oats.
