I have another contest tomorrow morning. This one is a small competition in a little town called Blue Earth MN. Should be a pretty fun time and I am not really nervous. I know just about everyone competing and am driving down with about 1/3 of them. Events are pretty cool.
Axle clean and press for max - I hope to hit 240
Farmers walk for max (40 feet) I hope to hit the 260/270 range
Stone load for reps 275 stone - this should be a good event for me
Forward plate hold for time with a 45 lb bumper plate - this is a crappy even, I got around 18 seconds when I tried it
Yoke walk - 600 lbs for 100 feet - wow I hate this, it will be a tough one for me
Tire flip and stack - flip two easy tires and then stack three more on top. Interesting even, I hope to do pretty well.
Wish me luck guys I will let you know how it went down probably Sunday evening.
Danny

Ha! Danny, my in-laws live in Iowa about 15-20 minutes south of Blue Earth. A strongman contest in Blue Earth; what do you know. Did you know that Elmor, MN, the next/last town south of Blue Earth, right on the Iowa border, is the hometown of Walter Mondale????
Oh yeah: best wishes, too. I hope it is/was a fun and fulfilling day. Can't wait to hear about it. I hope you fare well. Those farmers can be pretty stong; my brother in law doesn't workout a lick, but he can haul around some pretty heavy sh*t.
Lame. I didn't get even close to doing what I should have done and am pissed.
Farmers Walk - Opened with 240 lbs per hand and flew through no problem. Pick 260 for my next attempt and flew with that too. I should have gone way higher but doubted myself too much. 270 has been a mental block for me and it kind of pyched me out. This was a PR though so I was okay with it.
2" Axle clean and Press for max - This is where shit hit the fan. I opened with 200, an easy lift for me. Clean goes no problem, I get great leg drive, and BLAST myself in the chin with the bar. That stunned the hell out of me and knocked two teeth out of place. Still ended up hitting the lift after that but had a mouth full of blood and a bit of a headache. The next attempt at 220 sucked because I was too gunshy to drive it and was still distracted. Used my third attempt to actually get 220 and it was a smoke show. Flew up. So I didn't get to go 240+ like I really wanted to. 240 ended up winning my class so a tie for first was within grasp.
Yoke Walk - Never a good event for me. Went 55 of the 100 feet with the yoke which is a big PR but still last place.
Tire Flip - The crazy tire medley was changed to a flip to save time and because the other event was kind of stupid. It took me 45 seconds to go the full 80 feet. The tire was crazy light and should have been a sprint but my head just wasn't in it anymore and I made a lot of mistakes on my flips. They went uneven and took too long.
Stone Load - Plate Hold was also cancelled for time and being a stupid event. Stone should have been mine, it tends to be one of my better events. You had to load a 275 stone to 43" as many times as possible in 60 seconds. My form sucked today and my first three were really slow. I got 6 but wasn't tired much, just barely didn't load the 7th. 8 won it and another guy got 7. The guy who got 8 is a person I train with a lot and even he admitted that I am a better stone loader so he was very suprised. 8-9 should have been mine if I wasn't a retard.
Ended up in a tie for 4th out of 5 guys, so a tie for last. Worst part was that 2nd place was mine to take and I just couldn't get up to do it. Pictures will come later tonight went I get back to school. I will say it was a learning experience and I did learn a ton.
My teeth hurt.

I will hopefully get a dentist appointment tomorrow. They aren't actually out, just a bit loose now. I kind of pushed them back in place but they wiggle a little and hurt a lot so I want to make sure there is no permanat damage.
Going to the dentist is a really lame way to celebrate my 21st Birthday (tomorrow)

Hey Danny, just take your licks and go on, you're a champion. Good job today, everyone needs a little humbling so just take it as that. I wouldn't take this as a failure. Make sure to deny any meds from the doc due to the fact you'll be doing some "self medicating" aka boozing it up that day! Don't want to mix any pain killers with alcohol thats for sure. Way to put in a good effort big guy, come back strong!
That sucks Danny. My friend has a situation somewhat similar to yours. He hurt his back during the winter training for baseball and it's only gotten worse. The doctors found that he fractured his back and is out for 12 weeks from friday. guess what that day is?? His birthday
Anyway, make sure you get those teeth fixed-gotta keep the chicks diggin u

Sorry to hear that things did not go well. But rather then tell how it builds character and will make you stronger (I am sure you have heard that one), I will just say: get you teeth fixed, take a day off, go out and party, then get back at and kiss ass next time. Good luck.

I forgot to mention that I decided like a dumbass to train today. I was just going to watch some guys on the training day but it looked so fun so I did a couple tire flips, frame pickups, flipped a fingal finger and missed it once and pulled a truck arm over arm. I am severly burnt out. I have all the symptoms: sensitivity to light, lack of sex drive, lethargy, lack of motivation, twitching bigtime in my sleep, etc...
I need a couple days off.

Rough...teeth are always the worst - they're more expensive to fix!

Despite the problems that you had your still kicked some ass. There will be up times and there will be down times, but how you come out of the down times is what determines your character. We know you'll come out on top.
Yes my most superlative felicitations on the anniversary of your birth...
Now go get drunk!

Uh, happy birthday from me too, Danny! Take a week off. Hire a good sports massage therapist and restore a week. Competition is not just taxing to your muscles from a workout perspective. The mental stress of competition also figures heavily into that equation.
Another observation... Despite your not having placed higher, you set PRs in most events, so for all practical purposes, in every competition you are showing higher and higher performance, which means you are headed the right direction. Take is slow and steady, and one day you will go into one of those competitions and realize that you just smoked everyone.
I really love reading your competition reports... Keep up the great work, don't beat yourself up so hard, take a break, and realize that you'll be partying in LR in jus 3 WEEKS!
Happy Birthday Big D! Don't worry about the teeth, they can be fixed (although I did tell you to be safe now, didn't I? ). Keep 'em all crooked and be even more of a bad ass when you come to LR.
Everyone has an off day - now you've got yours out of the way!
