Deadlift Question
This morning I read Eric's Articles about deadlifts that soomeone had cross-posted from t-nation. In the article it said something about doing deadlifts in barefeet, chuck taylors, ballet slippers, etc.
So being a relative newbie to resistance training, and not being afraid to ask what is probably a stupid question and in the process sound like a 2 year old, but "why barefoot/thin soled shoes????"

The simple answer: With the deadlift, you want to drive through your heels into the floor to really recruit the big muscles of your PC and hips. Most normal sneakers have a large heel. Chucks, ballet slippers, or best of all bare feet reduce or eliminate the space between your heel and the floor.

You want the flatest, most natural surface possible so that you are able to sit through the heel/sole of the foot while maintaining lateral (side-side) stability and support. A good flat bottomed sneaker works best.

I figured it probably had to do with driving the heel into the floor and y'all confirmed it. Off to try them barefooted.

It's why I like to deadlift at home... then I get to be barefoot. Though I have perfect shoes for the gym, but still. Barefoot only has one drawback... and that's only if you have slippery hands when holding the weights.

Must be a major sumo stance if a slipped barbell lands on your feet :p

except that I said the *weights*, not the bar.
:p
and considering I've managed to hit my head on the bar on squat day twice in a row... let's just say that for me... nothing is impossible.

My lifts were 1x15x70 and 1x15x75 tonight. The first set was easy and the second wasn't much harder. I probably could have done 80 easily tonight.
