Default olifting tip

Olympic weightlifting tip
How wide should the feet be placed?
Most athletes do well when placing their feet about shoulder width or slightly wider
Or same position they would be when performing vertical leap

A recommendation David Pursley (member of Olympic Weightlifting hall of fame as a coach and athlete) gave me regarding foot width with olifts - step off a box and wherever the feet naturally land that is where the feet will be placed for the beginning of the Olympic movement

thanks

I've always gone by where my feet land if I do a vertical jump. Similar principle, I suppose. Also tend to use that position for deadlifts and squats, although I try to vary my stance a tad for those.

Thanks for the tip; I'll try that to see what comes out of it.

As I have recommend before, I would even jump off a box and watch where the feet land. Your body instinctively places your feet to best absorb the shock. It's a good rule of thumb for beginners.

Yep, or do a chinup and let go and see where you land.

I lifted with a powerlifter for a while that was convinced that I should have my feet very close togethor when deadlifting/presses/whatever.. I tried for months, but could never hit any PRs with a closer stance.

Feet possitioning makes a big difference. Also, I dont think everyone is made to have their toes 100% forward in all cases like some people are advocates of. I know naturally I am slightly duck-footed so my feet naturally go a few degrees out for me.

In Dos' breakout session at the Summit he had us do a couple of vertical jumps, where you landed was your foot placement for the O-lifts.
