No points for style, but he managed to get the weight up.

He looks like he's going to snap in half. I don't understand why the guy behind him is clapping...

I'd like to hear the story behind that. I wonder how training for that is going to effect the kid in the long run.

I believe thats called a jefferson lift. In theory it could be easier to lift this way because 1) youre arms are still parallel with each other, 2) the weight is directly under you so you kinda squat it up as opposed to pulling it back.
Im not a fan of the rotation of the hip though. That lift looked rough, but then again, it was also triple bodyweight...

Its also called the straddle squat and it activates the thighs more than a regualr deadlift, but its also more dangerous than a normal dead if you do it with improper form

I think it depends on if you're used to hauling around something really heavy between your legs. I'm not, so I use the traditional DL form.

Similar in principle to a trap bar deadlift, perhaps? i.e., getting more directly over the weight But, I see the hip/torso rotation issue in this version.

It does seem similar in leverage to a trap bar, but my back screamed in agony watching that lift, plus what if you have short arms??????????

I think I will stick to regular deads. The boys will thank me for it.
