Mahler’s Monday Morning Motivator # 160 – Of Time and of Perspective
Of Time and of Perspective
The sky was awash with varying shades of grey and the clouds reached down with their gnarled fingers as if to touch the mist that clung to the ground. The trees, barren and lifeless, appeared to step out from the fog, every now and then, as though to escape its embrace which surrounded them and softened their features. They, too, like ancient and withered hands, reached up out of the earth as from the grave.
The entire scene as I drove along the highway, was antediluvian in its scope and it would almost not have surprised me to see some long extinct saurian creature emerge from the trees and the fog to casually make its way in search of food. Yet, the grey, the damp and the chill of the morning carried with it its own kind of wonder and beauty.
In a few weeks, I thought, this same trip might be completely different as the sun breaks through the clouds and the trees trumpet their newfound greenery and the buds and flowers bedeck the forest. It is, after all, only a matter of time and of perspective. For not too many days ago these same trees were etched sharply against a backdrop of purest white, like the drawings of an artist in charcoal. Again, in a few short months this banquet of green will give way to a feast of other colors as the seasons change. Yet each is blessed with its own unique beauty, its own particular way to touch the senses, and all are a matter of time and of perspective.
Nature teaches us its secrets and gives them up freely. Even the storm eventually gives way to the calm and the sunshine. How often have you had a setback, perhaps an injury or a real problem in your life? We all do. And, too, how often, a few months or years later, do you look back and see that you have learned, that you have grown in some way through that experience. Again, we all have. The view from the valley can be as exhilarating as the view from the mountaintop. Even the puddle of water can produce a rainbow. It’s all just a matter of how and when we look. It’s all a matter of time and of perspective.

My job is currently transitioning from one owner to another and my staff and I are in dark about what this change holds in store for us. So this certainly hits home for me.
Nice visuals John. Thanks

Beautifully written John. What you have said has a great correlation to fitness as well. In just a matter of months the scenary(body comp) can change. Its all just a matter of time. Also, we are seen differently by everyone, therefore, our appearance is a matter of perspective. The most important being our own. Good stuff John, it was worth the wait!
