Huge squat, im surprised it wasnt called a little bit high, looks like it in the video.. But then again no way you can tell from a front angle so I should keep quiet.

you can't just put gear on and gain poundages... there's a lot more to it. There are some people who put on gear, and don't get anything. then there's others who put it on, and actually learn the gear, and get hundreds of pounds out of it.

Gear or not, chuck v is a stong mo fo. There's stories of him choosing people to be his workout partner for the day, and then running them into the ground w/ the amount of volume. I think most people at westside think he has one of the highest work capacities of anyone there.

Some people just have that "extra" that you can't train. Performance enhancing drugs, gear, whatever... you don't get to 1150 unless you're made to lift.

I'm not trying to put him down or anything. Obviously one must work hard to hit an 1000 plus squat, regardless of gear. Just curious of how much a difference it makes. What can he squat raw?

he most likely doesn't train raw squats. plers only care about geared squats. They do lots of lower back work, gms and box squats, which will have a carryover to their geared squat. Lots of stuff is a secret what westside does, which is one of the perks of training under louie.

If you're not in a PL contest then why use any gear at all? Better bragging rights? If I'm in a contest where everyone is using gear, then of course I would use it to compete. If I'm lifting for myself, then I don't see what gear brings to the table.

Even for hypertrophy purposes gear could come in handy (or I suppose you could get the same effect with reverse bands).

They let you handle more weight. Even though at the bottom of the squat you can handle say 400lbs, at the top you could handle 500. If the gear lets you get 100lbs more, the upper part of your squat is getting worked harder then it would without gear. This could cause more leg growth etc.

Plus, if you do plan to compete one day, you need tons of practace in gear to use it well. I dont really think its much to do with bragging rights, there are no bragging rights in powerlifting imo until you are hitting near record numbers.

There's not much point to using a squat/DL suit unless for competition, but a lot of people will recomend using briefs with older/more experienced lifters to preserve hip health. Same for a loose bench shirt for shoulder health.

Edit: plus everything that frank said, hence Ronnie Coleman wearing a squat suit.

The ladies love big Chuck. That's just a month after he bombed in the Arnold too, impressive, there's a man that nothing can stop. I think he hit parallel, from a front view it's next to impossible to tell, but if you watch where the hip crease in his suit is from the top of the lift to the bottom you see it gets pretty low. You can't tell from the front because his quads are huge and it makes them look high.

yep, i wear a very loose pair of briefs for a lot of my squats b/c my hips suck. i can get them on in like 30 seconds... my hips aren't aching for days afterwards

I wear compression shorts when I squat. Not really like squatting briefs as they aren't that tight, but they help more than not wearing them. Oh yea, nice squat :p

yeah, Vogelpohl is awesome, one of my favourite PL'ers. Bolton still has the real all-time, all-classes World record though.

By the way, I wouldn't stop training raw. It's trough that you get stronger in gear if you train in gear. But if you ever decide to do Strongman you're fucked. Because it's gonna take a while to get strong again raw.
Imo, you should train raw as well as in gear. (and still I only train raw...)

Hell I had 305 on me today for high box squats and I felt like I was gonna snap in half! That's not even 1/3 of what Chuck did.

Stopping the weight on the way down looked harder for him than coming back up with it.

That is some kind of ridiculous. If I ever got to half of that weight, I would consider myself a He-Man. Absolutely insane.
