Most of the guys in here would tell you that cardio is a waste of time, but from a purely practical point of view, you are doing activity instead of going to lunch and eating a rich meal, which is probably much better. You may get a more "fat burning effect" by making your cardio days more intense, like doing some sprint intervals. Depending on the teacher, a spinning class can really rev you up.

JP, I've often wondered about cardio and weights. Is it a waste of time to do cardio? Why do so many people say that? Does cardio have as much affect on your fat burning capabilities as weight lifting 'cause God knows lifting weights is way more fun then running 'til you're about to pass out.

I wouldn't consider it a waste, it just depends on what your goals are. If, like me, you enjoy doing outdoor cardio activities like riding bikes, rowing, etc, then by all means, do activities that you enjoy. I think that the reason you hear that it is a waste is that most people who do cardio are doing it for the sole intent of "burning bodyfat", and it simply is not the most efficient way to trim down the ol' adipose tissue.

Well, I am not a pro on fitness but I have been working out for almost 10 years now, mainly becuse I enjoy it and love lifting, often I get stuck doing the same thing over and over again. My goal is just to stay fit and now I am 30 I still can wear my dress that I bought 10-15 years ago, my weight is steady (between 96-98lbs, height 5.1).
The reason I do cardio is trully to burn fat but also (my ex trainer told me) to make my heart stronger.
The only confusion that I have right now is: If I do cardio (5 times a week for 20-25 minutes) then after that I do weights, how come I still can't lift heavier weights/barbel. Isn't doing cardio you supposed to be stronger?
Thankyou;
TB
