So your gym-goer may be an excellent programmer or lawyer or plumber who can improvise and adapt in their own field with ease - but it doesn't carry over to "gym" - in their mind "the gym" and "the workout" should be constants. You might adapt and improvise with ease in a gym because that is where you have expertise and knowledge - and flounder if confronted with a computer glitch that made you use a different email interface one day.
Awesome points LisaS!

So now we know that Izzo's weakness is counting.

I agree with Lisa's points about improvisation, and K Manley's Teddy Roosevelt quote is good too. Instead of "natural vs. learned", you could also say "attitude vs. skill". Same thing, and both can develop with time.

When I had my first child, I might've tried to have a good attitude about being flexible with my schedule, however, I was totally new to the whole parenting thing. Today, I have much more experience at my disposal, and even with a so-so attitude can go with the flow and adjust pretty well when the kids go psycho batnut.

sounds like the dude was likely being a moron. assuming john offered all the advice\assistance he could "uhhh...there's a whole room full of treadmills, feel free to try one of those other ones"...moron.

I get the one squat rack is taken and it screws up your workout, and being frustrated. If there's 10 squat racks of roughly equal build 9 are free but the one you "want" is taken and you throw a hissy? moron.
