Question

Anyone here familiar with sportspecific.com? I have been getting barraged with email trying to get me to affiliate with them, and upon looking at their site, I am not really impressed. I may be hasty here, but animations like this:
or this or this somehow leave me feeling like something is just NOT RIGHT.

They say:
Quote:
Over 5,370 pages of Cutting-Edge Speed, Strength, Power, Agility and Endurance Programs and Exercises!
If you're an athlete, coach or trainer, this might be the most valuable web site you ever visit!
It costs $67 for a year. To their credit I saw that they publish articles from our very own young athletes guru, Brian Grasso. But they also publish Paul Chek's stuff, which raises an eyebrow. I guess $67 is okay... I wouldn't really be losing that much money if it was a site that I could really use a lot.

Anyone else members from in here? I want to get some opinions before shelling out $67!

What do you object to about Paul Chek? Just asking because I've heard of him but I don't know anything about him.

I don't see why anyone would pay for a fitness site when there's thousands (including this one) that are free. To me, that site is mostly in it for the money and helping people comes second (or further down the scale). http://www.bodybuilding.com/ or http://www.exrx.net/ are just two sites off the top of my head that lots of people use.

And if they are "barraging" you with email, that's spamming and to me that means they want you to sign up before you realize you can find better sites for free. And if the site disappears in 3 months because they didn't get enough people to pay the $67, where's your money then?

Sportspecific.com has been around for years and is probably the most popular site of it's kind. It's owned and run by Ryan Lee, an outstanding human being and a very bright guy.

Yes, the info is quite diverse offering just about any topic you could discuss. Some you will agree with and some you will disagree with. Ryan leaves that up to you.

You'll also find some great stuff from some of the top strength and conditioning coaches in the entire country and internationally at the top levels. Alwyn has a couple of audio interviews on there that are outstanding as does Brian Grasso (I feel so left out).

Ryan is also the brains behind www.personaltraineru.com which is another outstanding resource for personal trainers. It includes info on training, start ups, marketing, publicity, etc. all from some of the most popular experts in the field.

Thanks Bill. Tell me, what is your opinion of the animations? Do you feel that they are more for trainers than clients? Do you think they work well enough.

Do they come with fuller explanations??? One of the things I like about exrx is they tell you some of the finer points of the lift, and what to focus on. Anytime I'm looking at something like this, I get worried that there is too much I am missing, especially as a relative newcomer to lifting.

JP's point is a good one. One would assume (dangerous, I know) that trainers are aware of the dos and don'ts of lifts, as well as the finer points for maximizing effect.

I have known Ryan Lee (owner of sportspecific.com) for 5 years (via the Internet) and I met him in person last year.

Ryan is committed to helping athletes, trainers, coaches, and anyone interested in improving performance. I bet he'd be happy to get back to you if you contact him with any questions you have.

Sportspecific.com has been around for quite a while. I listen to all of the audio interviews, and read all of the articles. Ryan's products help trainers (improve their business) and athletes (see Speedexperts.com - the book that Bill contributed to).

JP - Are you getting emails without ever having signed up for his free newsletter? I'm surprised if that is the case.

I was getting spammed by a few individuals who had their own sites which used sportspecific.com as the spine of the site... Or as current internet lingo goes, "powered by ss.com". As it turns out the couple of guys who were sending me info just saw my posts on other forums and were trying to get me on their sites. I tracked down the source site, and apparently the source was a product from ss.com called a "fitness generator".

I must say though, with all the kudos from the right people that I have heard I am pretty sure than I am going to subscribe now.

Cool

I have know Ryan Lee for almost 10 years now. Back in the old days, he ran a much smaller version of sportspecifc.com and I handled all of the soccer conditioning inquiries and message boards and wound up producing conditioning programs for soccer programs all over the world(Alwyn hosted the martial arts boards). Ryan was a great guy who really wanted to help me get my "expertise" out there via the WWW. Eventually...someday? I might take the time to get involved in the marketing side of what we do for a living (and finally make my millions?!). When I decide to do that, Ryan Lee is the FIRST person I will call! I have taked to Alwyn Cosgrove about this same thing in the past and he agrees 100%.

JP....those are still pretty funny animations though!

Ryan is a SOLID individual. This field needs more people like him. He's not the guy spamming you JP, I can guarantee that - not his style.

I think sportspecific.com is the BEST site of it's kind on the market - there is tons of stuff worth reading/listening to on the site.

Ryan also was the brains behind the speed product - whether you agree with the marketing or not, it is still bt far the best product of it's kind on the market.

Two products from Ryan are well worth picking up- see My Site
for the sports training business package and the fitness products production package. Both products really helped me in my business.

So - good guy, good site, good content - worthwhile investment.

Not that you need anymore urging, JP...

But Ryan Lee truly is a quality guy. Alwyn is right... Not a chance that Ryan is the one spamming you.

SportSpecific.com is a very worthwhile investment. In fact, for $67 a year, the information available is MORE than outstanding.

Good luck!
