Knee sleeves are great for the majority of the population. With that said there are some people out there that I have dealt with in my years that had bad reactions to them...people that have some tracking issue with their patella did not receive the knee sleeves well and it seemed to hurt them more. Remember, everyone is different. I have had more people benefit from them, but we need to understand that some people have issues and extra compression isnt always good. Mike understands this well.
The only other warning is to make sure you clean them more than occasionally..I have also had to treat many sleeve wearers over the years for skin conditions, rashes, etc.. from not cleaning them. TUrn them inside out, and use a little alcohol on them and you should be good.

Excellent points...nothing is perfect for everyone, and as always it boils down to the individual using them.
And dirty sleeves are just nasty!

Great points by everyone on the thread.
Keith - I use the Rehband's personally, but haven't tried anything else. While I guess that's not good from a comparison standpoint, I think it's good for the Rehband's because that's all I've ever wanted and needed. I really like them.
Stay strong

Great points. I'm against them. For $20-$25 you can buy a great set of knee wraps, which will kick a sleeves ass anyday. With a wrap, you can adjust the compression, and they don't bunch up if you wrap correctly. Plus, once a week you can toss them in the laundry so they don't smell like @!$%#. To each his own, but I did enjoy reading the article! Now, wrap it up...

I noticed that a few people mentioned sleeves while other mentioned wraps. I know Mike Boyle is against the knee wraps:

Knee wraps are not an injury prevention tool. They're an elastic launching pad to allow you to lift more weight. Knee wraps don't protect the knee.
If you have knee issues and like the feel of something on your knee, use Neoprene sleeves. I'm a raw guy all the way. No belt or a cheap Velcro belt, no wraps.
If you compete in powerlifting, this is a different story. Throw on your gear in the last few weeks to get ready, but don't train with it.

I'd think that the wraps would make squats easier, akin to wearin compression shorts, while the sleeves don't offer any help. My preference is to lift as raw as possible. I don't want to become dependent on things like wraps and straps, etc. If I can't move the weight, then I'm not strong enough to move that weight. I don't want something else helping me.

I can see the point if you're a stud moving some serious weight. I'd look like a jackass if I wore them.

LOL I wish. Hot yes, as in sweating. I'm still trying to get back up to the 225lbs for reps. I refuse to give up my sleeves or wraps though, they feel good.

I don't use wraps for injury prevention. I use my head for that....
And Mike Who?
