Default Annie squats and kips

That Annie is back at it again.

I'd like to show this to all the potential female clients that say that don't want to squat cuz they'll get a big butt.

Yeah, stick to the ab/adductor machines

Looks like she's recovered well from child birth. Her left elbow is freaky in the OH squats.

That's really great that she can do that, I know I couldn't.

That being said... what's going on with the pullups?

That pullup technique is called a "kip." The crossfit message board and T-Nation forum have a lot of discussion about whether it's a strength building technique or a form of "cheating.".

Her elbows look like their going to snap. I don't think I could hold that weight overhead for that long without doing the squats themselves.

Regarding the pullups - it's called kipping. Makes them somewhat easier to do. It looks to me like it changes the exercise to a total body exercise, which may or may not make it easier.

She's in amazing shape. She's a legend. I certainly wouldn't be able to keep up with her.

Are you talking about that Japanese documentary on Fedor's training or some other footage?

And I agree kipping is not easy at all. For those that haven't tried it essentially turns pullups into a dynamic movement involving the hips along with the obvious upper body recruitment.

Anyone that considers it "cheating" go ahead and try to bang out 20 consecutive and get back to us

I'm not saying that kips are easy, just that it allows you to do more reps. I test kids in pullups in my weightlifting class. Some use strict form, and some use a kipping motion. In that case, the kids that use strict form think it's unfair for the others to use the kip.

It may look easier, but it's still tough. Kipping vs strict pull-ups

Her elbows hyper-extend a bit (which makes me cringe) but she is amazing ... there is one video with her ... I think it's called Nasty Girls ... they're doing fast bodyweight squats, muscle ups, and cleans ... amazing ... something to which I definitely aspire! There's also a video where they teach the kipping movement ... I didn't realize that at the top you actually push the bar away to create that swinging movement ...

I agree with the kids. They should all do the same thing for testing whether it's kipping or pull ups.
