Default Ian King (It's more about his "Get Buffed!" series)

Hey guys, right now I'm standing here with my cousin. He's almost in the same position as me. I think you all know my story because of all the threads I started before . Anyways, I've managed to convince him to eat well and a lot to build muscle and I've lent him my PN manual. He liked it and got one for himself . However, he still won't listen to me about training. He asked me who was my favorite coach. I told him that they're all good, but I like Ian King because he's the first person that got me interested in weight training in the first place. He wants to get his Get Buffed! series. I told him they were out of date (I don't remember who told me that in this forum and I can't find that comment). So he's thinking of getting them. But in my opinion they're a bit pricey if he can get something as good as Get Buffed! but cheaper. Any comments?

I liked Ian Kings SS and Limping series. Yeah they were linear and had some moves in there that I wouldnt do again, but it did give me a feel for what I did and didnt like (since he gives you some choices) but still guides you through the way.

Id still recommend it for someone trying to get into the basics. You get a push/pull set up and as long as you eat enough, you do get buff on it.

Yeah, the thing is, when he read what Get Buffed! would deliver he kind of "fell in love" with the product. Here's what the Get Buffed! website says:

~Creates muscle size and strength, and lowers body fat in a greatly accelerated time frame.
~Boosts athletic performance
~Dramatically lowers injury incidence and severity.
~Creates new levels of self-awareness of recovery status.

That's the goals that both of us want. Moreover, I'm more into designing my own training programs rather than following a pre-made one. No matter how proffesionally designed the program is. That's why I really like CT's "The Black Book of Training Secrets". But CT's book is a bit complicated to design training programs with.

Your comparing apples with oranges (IMO). I think you will do well with many different training regiments out there (new and old). As long as the programs follow the principles to get you power/mobility/strength/hypert rophy etc. Also, I'm sure your knowledgeable enough to create your own hybrid from the info you read.

I like what Charles Staley wrote once (paraphrased): ...the best program is the one you're not using...

dude...it probably doesn't matter. have him lift something today, then lift more a few days from now (repeat for ever). if he's interested in it then encourage him to get it. it's not going to hurt him and may spark a greater interest in the future.

I recommend practical programming.

starting strength, or tell him to read up something simple like linear periodization (ala bill starr, or glenn's stuff). He'll get the most benefit from doing the basics, and simply adding weight to the bar every workout. He doesn't really need stuff like limping or any speciality programs yet.
