ummmm, that's nice, looks more like injury prevention and conditioning type work, if it was real Strongman training it wouldn't be in a gym, they don't have real Strongman gyms, this would be ok for those that wanted to think they were training like a strongman but knew they really weren't

i mean, what are you talking about when you said they don't have real strongman gyms? Go to maurande's board... it's full of guys who have gyms and train sm
Uhhhhh Pfister = World's Strongest Man. I think he knows what he's doing. Ask Danny about his strongman training, too. Once again, this dude is confusing me.

I'm a bit confused too. What does cable pulls on a bosu or balancing on two stability balls do for strongman training. The band training and heavy DL's certainly made sense.
for all we know that might be some recovery-type training or something. Belive you me, Phrightening-Phingal-Phingers-Phil-Phister does his share of HEAVY training in the gym...don't worry about that guys. You don't CLOBBER Pudj in the final stretch of the WSM without being a bad muther....

Some of those things made me question the transferability to SM. Looked like a lot of "functional" training.

The dude has put in some serious hours lifting heavy weights, look at thoe deads in the video, looks like over 600lbs (maybe even 700? no idea) and hes toying with them.
Im guessing this is alot more of his 'conditioning' workouts. Getting his endurance up for the events.

Man do I hate that term.....Mike Boyle told he regrets the fact that he has the pic of the guy on the coreboard with the med ball on the cover of his Functional Training for Sports book....in hindsight he would NOT have done that. Just pigeon holes you and sets you up as the 'functional training' dude who doesn't quite understand about heavy lifting etc.

Also, I believe that he was better(than Pudj) at static strength event as opposed to the conditioning types, so it would make sense that he would do alot to get conditioned for WSM.
I like the line he gave at the end, "I did it my way, and no one can stop you if you want to do it your way"

I wish I could watch the video now but work blocks YouTube, I should be able to check it out later today.
Just some backround if people don't know. Phil has been one of the top American strongmen for a couple years, even making the finals a couple years ago (where he vowed that he would win one day) but he has always been pretty weak at static events, especially deadlifts and squats. So he hired a guy named Nick Osbourne (the guy who made the video) to make him a better strongman. The result - Phil won worlds. So no matter what the video shows or if I, or anyone else, disagrees with it, you really can't argue with the results.
But I am really excited to see it and I will probably buy it.

That would mean I was the opposite of right in my last post
This is almost exactly the same as 30% of the workout I used to do with some high school hockey players a few years back, save for the free motion work on the bosu. And instead of push-ups on bosu's with outside forces, I had them on bosu's holding weighted bars like a hockey stick and I pushed/pulls on the bar to throw off their balance. Leverage is your friend, use it to your advantage

Yes I am quoting my own post because I am that cool.
I finally had a chance to watch the clip.
I really like it. The thing is, it did show him doing some heavy deadlifts and you know he was doing other heavy training. Some of the bosu balance stuff and swiss ball stuff is kind of lame, but that was only a small part of the video. It just stands out because of who he is and what he trains for. Look at some of the moves like the explosive pull through and squat to row. That stuff looks hard and like it would dominate most people conditioning wise.
Then you have the medicine ball over the rack thing and the other jumping moves. You need to look at the events at Worlds this year. A keg toss is pretty explosive and the better you develop force, the better that the event you will be. A lot of strongman comes down to not who is the strongest or fastest, but who can keep producing power for the longest amount of times. You can't just throw one keg really hard. You have to throw 10 really hard. That takes some specific training. Plus I think Nick Osbourne put in a bunch of the "functional" stuff just to be a bit eye catching.
Overall I am super excited for the vid and just got the e-mail that mine shipped out last night. I will post a full review when I get it.

I like the medicine ball basketball shooting into the power rack. He hit 100% from the field!
And for those that are questioning this training, read up on GPP. For strongman obviously training the events is of prime importance, but if you don't have good conditioning it doesn't matter how skilled you are in the events, you'll hurt yourself or you'll never make it through the entire competition. He's the world's strongest man for a reason.
