Body Solid Multi Press vs. powertec power rack? - JP Fitness Forums

Hi - anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on which of these two is the better option? I do heavy lifting alone, and I like that the multipress has the gunrack on the front bar - that should make it faster to change the bar position for different exercises (and maybe safer too)...but of course I lose the pull-up bar that the power rack has (but I can work out some other option for those)...and I wonder if the multi-press is as solid overall...appreciate if anyone with a multipress would share their experiences with it..thx!

the power rack would be my choice, especially if you are working out alone at home. You can do pullups/chinups with that too.

power rack. that looks like a nice rack, but you can probably find something cheaper over at midwestbarbell.com, and you could get more stuff for the same amount of $$

I would definately go with the full power rack, but as Alco said, do some more research to may be able to find a better deal at midwest barbell or ny barbell (I think they offer basically the same racks). They both offer free freight too.

That looks like nice stuff, but they only provide a quote via fax or email. No pricing on the website. Not sure why they would do that unless they were expensive as well.

That being said, is it safe to say that the racks that Midwest Barbell & NY Barbell are going to be quality? They've got a lifetime warranty and a lot of options that can be added. Much better than what I've seen from Body Solid or Powerline (cheap BS stuff)...

Thanks to the tax man, I'm in the market for a rack with a lat/pull station attachment. NY Barbells has what looks like a decent one for $300 and the lat/pull attachement is another $200. Pretty much right at my budget. The tubing is 2-inch. The more expensive ones have tubing that's 2.5-inches. May be overkill for me. I'm not lifting 800lbs or anything. Just want to make sure I get a quality piece of equipment for an affordable price. Lifetime warranty adds a lot though.

I own a Body-solid multi-press, so I can review this piece.

It's good, but the Powertec would provide a pull-up and dip bars. However, by placing the barbell in the top most position, you can do pull-ups off that. It's pretty solid.

The powertec you show has a high/low pulley station so you can use it for pull-downs and cable rows.

They have it for $699 at bodybuilding.com with free shipping.

The multi-press has a 1000lb capacity, the powertec has a 1500lb capacity and the dip bars can handle 400lbs.

If you can afford the powertec, you should go with that as it'a more versatile.

The standalone powertec also sells for 399 with free shipping at home-gym.com. This is as you requested, without the weight stacks and pulleys. Not bad considering the dips bar and chins. The 699 pulley version, which you showed in the link would be abit more lavish.

A full power rack is definitely cheaper in the long run and better than the bodysolid half rack, provided there is sufficient height clearance in your garage. Surely not a difficult decision to make. Unless you have loads of weight plates to store, in which case you may want to consider another type of power rack with weights storage.

I've got a bench and GHR station from midwest. They ARE the same stuff, you just deal with Susan through midwest, and others with NY. I've heard a lot of bad stuff about ny's customer service, but i've never had any bad stuff with susan.

my ghr, the weld broke on it, which is a pretty freak accident, on the footplate. I contacted susan, and she got the whole thing taken care of, AND shipped to me within a week, and free of charge.

I know a lot of people have used their stuff, and like it.

I'll also say, the multi-press rack is shorter, so it fits in almost any basement. The powertec rack is 82" tall, making it a bit more restrictive for me.

Midwest doesn't seem bad, even though the list of items is a bit anemic. They have a good bar for $199 ($139 at NYBB) and I do like the economy of the pulley-less rack on Midwest and some dip bars added would bring it to ~$340. They don't list the rating for the rack, but the dip bars for that thing are rated at 1000lbs.

I will when I'm in the market. Right now, I still have a ceiling restriction making my multi-press rack the best solution.

Expensive? Far from it...in fact, i will bet that promaxima will out price ANYTHING close to it's quality with any piece of equpiment. They are a QUALITY company that i have done business with for about 10 years now. They have a catalog that they can send you will all their current prices....just call and ask them.

I've asked Promax for a quote, but since I am buying this for my home in Switzerland, I think shipping is going to be an issue...even thought it's a little expensive, I'll probably end up with the Powertec rack, which at least is available for shipping over here from Germany at reasonable cost....Thx again!
