More sleep at night = sleepier during the day???
OK, so for most of the school year, I went with 6 hours of sleep because it just worked for me. A couple of weeks ago, I started getting tired out of nowhere. Nothing changed in my schedule or anything. I'd come home from school and pass out for the afternoon. On weekends I'd sleep for hours. But, no matter how much I slept, I always woke up feeling exhausted. So, lately I've been stretching my sleeping to 7.5 hours a night, going to bed at 10:30 instead of 12. Back when I had 6 hours of sleep, I was fine for the day. Now, getting 7.5, I'm feeling tired during school and the rest of the day. Got bloodwork done and it ruled out any medical situation, so I'm kind of at a loss. Anybody ever experience anything like this or have a clue about what it might be? Thanks

Have you taken a break from lifting in the last little while?
Also, 7.5 hours of sleep is not all that much for someone young. Everyone is different for amount of sleep needed so its hard to say, I know I need 9-10+ hours.

Sounds like a normal time of the hormone roller coaster. I'd say it's just part of being a teenage guy -- it may even be a sign of a growth spurt.

i get like 5.5-6.5 hours durning the week, and then more on the weekends. I also take naps though.
don't underestimate the power of naps! I used to take them in highschool all the time.
If i remember correctly, one time i managed to sleep through 9 out of 10 of my school periods in high school. that was a great day.

i get about 6 hours a night on when i wake up on mondays, wednesdays, and fridays. on tuesday and thursday i get around 8...just the nature of my class schedule which works out good.
like someone said, it might just be a hormone thing you're going through. i know back in high school, my sleeping schedule was messed up for parts of my soph and junior years.
and yes, naps are great. i nap pretty much everyday around 2-3...usually for 30-40 minutes. feel refreshed, ready to get work done and hit the gym up later in the night.

How many growth spurts are there? I know of one around the start of the teen years.

My sleep rolls in cycles. I usually get 8 hrs a night and that serves me fine, but once every few months I need more, so I get more, and it goes away. When I was in my teens, I could sleep all day everyday or stay up all night everynight. I say just listen to your body. If it says you need sleep, then sleep.

The doc said what RL first mentioned that its probably a hormone thing, maybe even signifying a growth spurt, which would be awesome Just weird that it popped up out of nowhere. My 6 hours plus a nap in the afternoon was going all great. Then one day, I just felt rediculously tired. I came home from school, slept from 330-730, watched the Devils game til 10, then fell right back asleep. Woke up the next day exhausted and I haven't found anything to fix it yet, about 3 weeks later. Got bloodwork done to rule out mono, anemia, thyroid problem, etc. Probably just everything catching up with me, but I'm naturally a bit more concerned as baseball starts in a week.

Hey Kevin, the same thing happens to me too. Sometimes I get exhausted when I'm getting plenty of sleep, and sometimes I have plenty of energy when I don't have any sleep. I just tend to suck it up and ignore it.

Did they check your B-12 levels...mine were "little old lady in the nursing home" low and I'm not 30........yet.
I now take a 1000 micro grams (I think) a day in a time released formula and I feel much better.

There can be multiple ones. When I arrived at college I was 6'1", 143 pounds. 18 months later I was 6'3", 195 pounds. Former San Antonio Spur David Robinson grew eight inches after his 19th birthday.
Kevin's experience sounds just like something I went through a couple of times, and it goes away after a few weeks. I'd bet he's at the tail end of it now.
Of course, all that is moot if it ends up being gonorrhea or something.

The nurse mentioned something about that or maybe a lack of iron (I think). Just try and add some more fruits and veggies and keep the diet in shape and just wait it out.

Whoa, man, I'm glad I didn't have the coffee cup at the lips when I got to this part.

though I'm way beyond the teen years, I've gone through (and still go through) similar phases where I feel like I'm great on 5-6 hours and phases where my body craves 8-9 (and wants naps on top of that). sometimes for me, it can be diet, stress, or who knows what?

Since you are a teenager you probably hit a growth spurt take it as a good sign and get the extra rest.
