Default YouTube video. Real or fake?

The post with the idiot benchpresser left me surfing YouTube for a little while, and I found this. I know everyone's genetics are different and everyone has different abilities to gain muscle mass, but this video looks like a fake to me.

What do you think? Has anyone ever seen 10-week results this impressive?

Highly unlikely for 10 weeks. I have a really hard time believing that.

Wow...that is a LOT of progress in a pretty short period of time.

How much weight would you suspect that person gained in 10 weeks? Thirty pounds?

Interesting how the face was blocked in the beginning, but not at the end. Makes me awfully curious, anyway.

If it's true...that is an incredible transformation. My guess is that it is probably not true, though.

Possible for sure imo, looks like he added a bit of size the first month or so, then cut down. Im sure he had his diet and training in line the whole time.

anything's possible with enough anabolics and diet in check.

He could have easily been doing a few weeks of test before the initial pictures were taken. it takes a few weeks to see anything from test, so...

For the average, jo blow not genetically gifted person, probably not possible.

Looked to me like he kept growing and growing the whole time.

How much weight do you think he gained in that ten week period...from first pic to last? I guessed thirty pounds, but I'm wondering what others think.

I really dont think steroids where used in this.

He looked like he gained 4-5lbs of muscle and lost about the same amount of fat, then flexed. In 2 and a half months, this is more then possible.

Vuduchyld, this page says he gained 14 pounds in the 1st six weeks:
http://workouts.ws/?cat=3

OldGuy, that's exactly what I'm used to seeing. Someone in the initial photo who is fairly built but who is slouching in poor light with no tan etc. I'm actually a photographer by trade and am pretty hip to the tricks that can be played with light and posture. But with this Youtube video, photo #1 seems to show a pretty scrawny guy. His arms and chest grew a lot in 10 weeks.

Anyway, if this is a true story, then more power to the guy! I think it's awesome.

I'm glad to hear folks opining on the probably of this happening in real life, though. Makes me feel a little better about my own progress as compared to his.

They may be progressive photos, but the main factor not considered is the first pic. The first pic could have been 15-20 weeks out and then from there progressed.

I believe it is a real video. It exists, therefore it is not fake. Glad I could help.

p.s. -- Sarcasm aside, I think his changes are possible, especially if he had been in that kind of shape before letting it go.

I gained 15lbs in less than two months with little fat gain when i was about 150. I also went from ~135 to 168~ in less than 7 months.
Way too skinny + lots of food + weights = big noobie gains.

its also possible he was previously big, lost a ton of weight then rebounded back.

its also possible hes lying

When you gained 15 pounds, did your body change as much as his? I'm thinking that looks like more than 15 pounds....way more. Plus, if he gained 14, then leaned down...does that mean he only ended up 8-10 pounds heavier? That definitely looks like more.

If the results are real, they are pretty amazing. Given enough discipline, an awesome routine, and the right genetics, you could probably pull off results like that.

because he was ashamed of his body before, and didn't want people to see who it was, but when he had ripped abs, he was proud of his body! duh!

I think it's definitely possible. The right diet, the right routine, being a newb? Definitely possible.

THe thing with those pics is that theyre not really comparable. Hes got different poses, distance from the camera, and lighting in each one so you really cant see the exact change.

As someone noted, who knows how long the first pic was really taken.

He really doesnt look all that big, he played with the camera very nicely.

Maybe the video where shown in an achronological order. Can definitely happen if you are suffering from some kind of disease. Week 10 was the starting point and week one is where he's at now.

In all seriousness, I think it's muscle memory. Not to mention dedication and hardwork in training and diet.

Maybe my frame of reference is skewed because I never really worked out until I was in my 30's. I never had the benefit of working out when I was at an age where my hormones were raging in a way that would benefit....

I've even recently started working out again after a significant layoff...but again, I'm now 39, so my body may not react in the same way.

But to me, the thought of gaining 14 pounds of mostly lean muscle in 6 weeks....that's just preposterous. There is NO WAY my body would do that.

Let's say the guy was...I don't know...hard to judge, but I'll throw some numbers out...170 lbs @16% bf. So he was 27.2 pounds of fat and 142.8 pounds of lean. After six weeks, he looked to be maybe 12% bf? If he gained 14 pounds, he was 184....at 12% bf, he'd be 22.1 pounds of fat and 161.9 pounds of lean mass.

I've got to say that in my opinion (again, given my frame of reference and not really working out when I was at that age) it strains credulity to think that in six weeks, he could put on 14 pounds of body weight, in the process losing 5.1 pounds of blubber and actually add a whopping 19.1 pounds of muscle....

THREE POUNDS OF MUSCLE PER WEEK?

I'm sorry...but I really honestly do not think so.

dos, you beat me to it. That is the first thing I noticed. If this was a true progress video, why blank out the face in some but not all segments?

I was also not aware that ear placement could be changed by lifting. In an early shot his ears seem to stick out farther from the head and in the last shot they are close to the head.

Vuduchyld,

I agree 100%. I ate well as a teenager and worked out like crazy. I benched 250 when I was 16 and weighed 160 pounds, but I never had gains like that in that short a period.

I'd be very interested if anyone could point to one credible study that had participants gaining >14 pounds of lean muscle WHILE losing fat in 6 weeks time.

As far as I can tell (and I am no expert) gaining a pound of muscle in a week is impressive. Gaining two pounds in a week is extraordinary. Gaining more than two pounds per week WHILE losing fat just doesn't sound realistic.

I'm wrong all the time (just ask my wife) so if I'm wrong about this, then I'll gladly eat my share of humble pie, but it just doesn't seem credible to me.

Then again, I don't much care whether it's real or not. It's just a fun thing to chat about. I appreciate everyone keeping it lively.
