Default Lag time between consumption and weight gain?

Most people know I'm trying to add some lbs of lean mass to my frame. One thing I started to wonder is what is the lag time between consuming calories and weight gain or loss? Is a 1 week, 2 weeks, almost immediately?

I don't know the scientific/technical answer. But based on my experience, it depends on the type of weight to be gained. The weight that I can gain and keep on in the long-term takes me several weeks (3-4) to add. And kinda like losing weight, I have to add it slowly. But that's just me and I have a somewhat fast metabolism (though it appears to be slowing down now after 30).

I agree based on my recent expereince it feels like there is at least a two week lag.

Wow...almost immediately for me. I've always suspected that much of the immediate impact was simply related to GI tract issues, but I usually notice it on the scale pretty quickly.

That's strictly pounds of body weight, though, of course. At the age of 39, my body doesn't add muscle quickly.

162 to 165 is the short answer. When I hit that milestone I'll reset and head toward 175 now that I've seen what 165 basically looks like.

The long story is that I've been as low as 139 acouple of years ago. I yo-yo'ed for awhile (mostly around 145), finally got to 150 and stalled. Over the last 3 months I have been really focused climbing to my present weight. My question came because I stalled again at 160 for a couple of weeks. I ramped up my tracking of calories and intake and 2 weeks later I broke through.

I don't notice, as i eat alot everyday haha, not sure if the weight i gain was caused yesterday, or a week ago, and it doesn't really matter to me.

Here's the somewhat scientific answer as I understand it. If you were to make a modest increase (250 calories - 62 grams of carbs) in daily caloric intake for 14 days you would have an extra 3500 calories to create a pound of muscle or fat. The problem is that our caloric expenditure isn't constant so it's difficult to make sure the excess 250 calories is on target every day. Of course weight depends on fluid status and that's always changing.

It rang a bell as some sort of term from waaayy back in the day. I thought it mostly afflicted cobblers, and that patients were cured by just bleeding 'em a few pints.

No hijack I think we got an answer awhile back. Now we are just having fun.

It's odd. I was really taking in the calories for about 2.5 weeks and no movement on the scale. All the sudden the scale is on a steady rise. It was like my metabolism had to figure out what to do with the calories.

Usually when I start an overeating phase, I gain a couple pounds the first week, and then have no gain for about 2 or 3 weeks. After that, I get a steady gain of about half a pound per week.
