I have one. I never bring it to the gym though, I usually just use the four way neck machine. Neck harnesses are great though.

I learned in my injury management class that those neck machines are risky business, but I forget why so this post was useless.

do you have a website on the proper way to do the harness? I know you're supposed to "turtle" your neck. I only plan on working the back of my neck, b/c that's what's the most important to me.

This website explains it. About halfway down.

Matthew, please go back to your textbook and let us know what it says. I've got mixed opinions about neck work and would be interested to know exactly what the objections to neck work are. Like most things, there are probably times and correct ways to work your neck and times and ways that are contraindicated.

Craziest thing i've ever seen. During the buddhist retreat I went on in January my roommate had to use one of those things for an old football injury he had. I never asked what/how it worked, but when I walked in and saw it the first thing I thought was "is he trying to hang himself?"

Lisa, it was mentioned in a discussion, not in the text book. I just looked through the relevant chapters to be sure, but it's not in there. Rest assured, I just emailed my teacher about it and I'll let you know when I hear back from her.

I hope you know what you're doing with those neck bridges. Apparently you can be trained to do them properly and minimize the risk, but still, that's dangerous territory.

*bites off Jason B's ear*
on a serious note:
Ive always wanted a tick neck. Is neck work advisable for the average Joe? Where to start, i read that link. Just warm up and press you're head against you're hand. How long do you think it will take to progress to the wall technique? where you lean against the wall. And do you just hold you're head static in that position, or move it?

If you want a big neck, the man to research is Jim Wendler. Go to elitefts and search the articles and Q&A for 'yoke' on stuff from him.

Ok, I emailed my teacher over a week ago now and still haven't heard anything. I cut her some slack because it was reading week and maybe she didn't go on the school's webct, but now it's just been too long. I have her class tomorrow, I'll talk to her then.
This is the second time I've emailed a teacher with a question and got nothing back. Actually that's not fair, the first teacher I emailed replied with an answer to one question and a request to reword my other question. Then she never replied to my second email. I like that teacher though so I won't include her in this.
Argh. And I gave them all good ratings on the student feedback questionnaire...

I use to use a towel with rope tied at the ends then you can hang weights off it and do the neck exercises.
