this idea came to me from nyguy's post on what warmups we do.

i was just wondering if they are necessary at all?? especially since in real lift when we have lift something heavy we just go and lift. do don't do any complexes, hip activation movements, no dynamic stretches, no running on treadmills or whatever other methods of warmups there might be. so if don't "warmup" in real lift, why warmup in the weight room?

just thought i'd ask and see what kind of responses i get. i was always curious about this.

I'll bite...

For me they are necessary to get the joints lubed up, blood flowing in my muscles and the CNS firing. If you can perform (and stay healthy) without a warm up, more power to you.

Of course, I don't warm up before "real world" lifting, but the weight room is completely different. Never in my life have I had to put 300 pounds on my back and move it up and down. If I ever had to do something crazy like pick up two people and carry them to safety, I'm sure the adrenaline would eliminate the need for a warm up. But for my grocery bag farmer's walks? No warm up needed.

they might not be "necissary". but on the same hand it's not "necissary" to eat right, lift right, sleep right.

i see your point about not lifting in real life, what we lift in the gym. that makes sense.

i wonder if some of the pro trainer will chime in on this.
