A dude was power cleaning in the open floor this morning and apparently had no idea what weight he could do. He started with 135 and on his very first pull up he toppled backwards. The bar bounced across his abs on the floor and was headed down for its second bounce further up his torso when I was able to catch it in the crooks of my elbows while stepping over him. I will have some good bruises on my arms for a while and he did get the wind knocked out of him but after his profuse thank you's he took off. A little embarrassd I imagine. But man, talk about a getting a charge out of something. I miss my old adrenaline junkie days every now and then.

Thanks. It was actually kind of a fluke since I was already watching and had already moved a little closer as I was walking by.Although I do not go around throwing out advice and stepping up on people to help, I do keep my eye on guys that look like they could get in trouble. Guess that is the Dad in me.

Awesome save, Rookie. Sometimes stuff happens so quick you just don't have time to change into your superhero costume. As long as you made it look like you struggled a little, I think your secret identity is still safe!

huh, I was going through the power clean motions with just the bar on Monday and I almost lost the bar at the top, a little to much force generated compared to my grip. ALmost took my face off. Would been fun skidding the knurling of the bar across my face, not to mention the impact.
Guess it's a bad power clean week.

Good on you !
I remember when i had to remove a legpress sled from a dude who was doing calf raises without the safety pins. He was an accordian under that thing.
Kids, use the safety pins!

Great save rookie!
I had a friend in high school who was doing the same thing bush. His calves cramped up and the platform fell right on his shins. Gave him a serious scar there. Funny thing was, when this happened I had literally walked out of the weight room ten minutes prior, so I saw him the next day with this gash on his shin.

You must have some pretty damn good instincts! The world needs more humans like you. At the gym here it would have taken somebody a lot longer to react.
Well done.

Sounds like the reflexes of a world-class goal-keeper to me. Did you pretend to struggle, slowly raising then lowering the weight to add a bit of tension?
Maybe he just didnt realise he had different weight limits for seperate exercises all be it using the same limb?
