My friend has trouble with his deadlift flexibility. Mostly it has to do with him raising his back feet off the ground when he goes down, and also he cant put his butt down low enough, so it almost looks like a straight back deadlift. He also can't get his legs bent enough, some suggestions? I want him to do the deadlift right.

He needs to pull up on the bar to push his hips down. In other words, use the weight of the bar to force his feet flat and hips back (if he were to let go of the bar he would probably fall backwards). Hope that makes sense.

If he is still unable to get in a correct position, he should work on his flexibility until he is able to. Try RDL's and gradually work gereater knee bend until you are down in the proper start position for a DL.

What stretches would work on his flexibility for DL's? Give me a list here, lol.

And thx for your help dos. We'll see tomorrow how it'll go. However, I don't need to pull on the bar to go low on the DL (I should try it see how it feels though). Just don't forget those list of stretches! lol

I have your friend's problem. I have to do sumo deadlifts, instead. I'm getting closer to being able to do conventional ones, but it's taken a lot of stretching to get this loose.

I've concentrated mostly on stretching my hip flexors, but lately, I've found that stretching my glutes has helped, as well.

Part of the ability to get into that position is knowing that you can. I assume the DL position several times throughout the day (to stay loose, but also practice balancing in that position).

Here's an article that I read that has helped me. Deadlift Diagnosis
