Hi All...I just wanted to say hey to everyone and let you guys know how much I have enjoyed surfing your posts over the last month or so. So as of now my "lurking" days are officially over.
Here's a little info about myself. I am 36, married, have 3 children and I am a self-employed computer technician. I have been weight training off and on for 4 years or so. I must admit more off than on unfortunately. I live in a small community where they roll up the streets at sunset. The small gym in my town closes early
which has forced me to assemble the necessary equipment to train in my garage which is good. However with no training partner, I have no friends who show any interest, I have been on my own. I hope by joining this forum you guys can help keep me motivated, which the lack of has been my downfall in the past. So please feel free to kick my ass if you think I need it

Hi Steve!
Welcome to the best darn fitness site on the Internet!
I hope you get as much training knowledge out of this site as many of us have.
Do you have any goals for your training?
I have personally just come to the realization after a year that without them I am pretty much just spinning my wheels and not going anywhere.
Og.

Ogedei,
First of all Hi. Glad to meet you.
My long-term goals:
1. Stop the yo-yo thing. Get to my desired weight and stay there. In the past 3 years I have been at 155, down from 185,and back THREE times. By the way I was not blessed with great height, I am 5'6.
2. Get off the meds. I have high cholesterol {320} before I started taking Crestor. I do not know if this is doable. It hasn't changed much regardless of my weight or activity level. The doc says it is mostly genetics in my case.
3. Improve my overall body appearance and strength.
I am currently 170 pounds, down from 188, so I would like to loose at least 15 more and then reevaluate.
I also set weekly and monthly goals to track my progress.
Thanks.....Steve

How's it going Steve? Welcome to the forum...I believe you'll find a wealth of information and motivation here.
You sound like me a couple years ago (I was 36, married with 3 step-children, living in BFE with the closest gym having lousy hours and several miles away. I'm 5'5 and bounced around alot weight wise too...well within 10-12 lbs, and had no one to workout with). I know all too well that it can be tough without someone to push you and having limited equipment.
I slowly accumulated a ton of equipment and kept it in a spare room and barn outside. I found stuff on sale, rummage sales, second-hand stores, friends getting rid of stuff, and a crappy run-down gym that went out of business sold me a few things as well. So equipment can be attained (I was poor as dirt and still managed it).
As for a partner, does your wife have any desire to workout? That can help a lot with both workouts and nutrition choices around the house.
Good luck and welcome again to the forum.
Ron

Thanks to all for the warm welcome.

Ron,
She has no real interest in weight training. I have been working on her however.

Steve: I related to your experience.
Me: 5-5, currently about 153, stated in martial arts 12 years ago at age 33 -- weighted about 175, out of shape, and mostly swung between 170-180, sometimes a bit higher. Muscle was not part of it.
Now I am stabilized in the 150's for quite a while -- almost 3 years -- and working on becoming leaner, stronger, more muscluar at about my current weight (SLOWLY getting there; still look like an average joe.) But, I look better than I used to, and I'm pretty fit.
We'll help in any way we can.
