Has anybody read the book NATURAL CURES and what do you all think?
Lots of fitness tips, such as using VIRGIN COCONUT OLIVE OIL and such..and not using Tylenol and such..
Just wanted to see what you all think and any changes?

It's written by Kevin Trudeau, convicted felon and well-known scam artist. The FTC levied action against him for lying about 8 different products in infomercials. The whole book is crap. I would doubt some of the "cures" could be dangerous.

The other complaints I've heard about the book is that it doesn't even show you many cures. Most stuff just points you to his website which wants more $$$ to send you a monthly? newsletter. If you really want to find out information about natural cures the library is probably the best place to start. Also, finding a secondard doc who specializes in stuff like that wouldn't hurt.

The thing that makes KT so persuasive is that there is just enough truth in what he's saying to make you want to go with it. I believe there are natural cures (exercise and eating right are BIG ones), but from everything I've read he doesn't deliver the goods.

As far as diet soda goes, pretty much any soda is bad for you compared to something like pure water.

I picked it up in a store and thumbed through it. Heinous stuff, and it's all delivered in a smug, "If I told you any more they'd hunt me down and kill me" tone.

Conversely, I read the excerpt of Andrew Weil's new book, Healthy Aging, when it ran in Time or Newsweek a couple months back. It looked like very solid information. I'd like to see his documentation for some of the advice he gives (he's very down on wheat, presumably even the whole-grain kind), but most of it correlated with my general knowledge of the subjects he covered in the excerpt.

(Side note: I interviewed him once, and reviewed a bunch of his books for Amazon. It's more interesting than I'd expected.)

I would call him a lot of things, but not an idiot. He's found a legal way to scam people out of lots of money without providing hardly any useful information. Sounds pretty clever to me!

The fact that he scammed people out of money does not mean that he is not an idiot just that their are people out their who are even more idiotic.

I don't know. Like I said, I'd like to see him elaborate on that, and check out his sources. But I'd have to buy the book for that, and I'm not that curious.

[/quote]Lou, I haven't read this particular Andrew Weil book, though I have others, but I believe it may have something to do with the perceived (substantiated?) high incidence of allergy or intolerence to wheat in the general population. Don't quote me on this though, I'm just hazarding a guess based on my readings in the "holistic/alternative" sphere.
