This past week, I blacked out and was hospitalized for 4 days of tests. As of now, a lot of bulging discs in neck. Wonder if from lifting and if so or not,
WHAT CAN I DO TO KEEP LIFTING?
I'm 39 6'3 about 235. I enjoy it and will miss it.
Any advice please?

Holy... Geez, I wouldn't worry about continuing to lift. man, take some time to heal and get better first.

You need the specific advice from our own Mr. Bill Hartman. I'll see if I can direct him to this thread.

Thanks for advice, I know, but you know how we are, when it's the one thing we truly enjoy, will be tough, maybe change workout a little?
THANKS FOR ADVICE and hope more to come.

The best training you can do right now....Rest and read. You need to heal and understand what caused your injury as it's serious and could be something that impacts your training for the rest of your life.

Rest up, and I hope you have a fast recovery!

I second Bill. The guy knows everything.

I injured my neck in a car accident a couple years ago. I would lift really light weights in conjunction with the physical therapy exercises that were precribed. It takes some time to get back to normal. Ask your doctor (and physical therapist) when you can start lifting and what exercises should be avoided. Don't mess around and end up hurting yourself more.

Hope you get better, man!

Rest and relaxation until your doc/pt tells you otherwise. I'm not lifting now due to an injury and it sucks, but I'd rather heal then to screw up and end up worse off.

Dude, the one thing you don't want to mess around with is the neck. Just do what they tell you to do for therapy. When/if they give you specific exercises to do at home, DO THEM!!!! I've seen too many people finish therapy and then either jump back into too much too fast, or just skip their home exercises because they felt better. Either way it never turns out good. Good luck, and keep your chin up. (no pun intended)

[/quote]Need some clarification.

Did you actually lose consciousness? If so, doing what?

Did they restrict your activities that would prevent you from exercising?

Is bulging discs your diagnosis from 4 days of testing?

Are they saying that's why you blacked out?

Any other medical history that may be helpful like high BP or cardiac issues?

FYI...disc bulges or just about any disc changes are progressive in nature meaning that these things come on gradually based on ALL activites, not necessarily one thing. Your daily postures, repetitive activities, genetics, and exercise all play a role.

Many times disc bulges are asymptomatic even when they show up on MRI's and such. Even tears in the annulus (the fibers of the disc) can be present without pain or symptoms.

Do you have pain? If so,
What makes it worse?
What makes it better?
Any pain elsewhere?
Numbness/tingling?
Weakness?
