Default Thanks -- need the encouragement

Just found this website. Loved reading back through a lot of posts on the forums.

I am trying to revitalize my workouts. Revitalize is probably generous -- try to resurrect them would be more accurate. 3 years ago, I was working out consistently, had about 9% body fat, 6 pack, very lean (not anywhere close to a bodybuilder like you guys, but that wasn't my goal) and decent muscle tone. I also was fairly strong for my size. Now, a wife and kid later, I'm about 12% body fat, not as lean, and the strength is horrible (lifting about 40% of what I was). But that's what happens when 4-5x a week turns into 1x a week.

I've hired a trainer and have been doing better. I just have to not be discouraged and think about what I used to have, etc. Thanks again for this site!

I'm at New Year resolution status too....I've done all the work, and fallen back down!

...you and me, can make a pact for the new year! Bring on the goals!

At the moment....10% fat, sounds pretty damn good! But the 220kg deadlift needs to come first....

On the bright side, I've found that regaining strength isn't as hard as gaining it the first time around. The body does remember some stuff, after all. So no need to be discouraged, once you slide back into the groove it'll all come back and it'll be like nothing much has passed. No use lamenting lost time... it just loses you more.

Welcome to the boards. Keep reading, there is more knowledge here than one can process, but you sure can try.

You've taken the first steps, and serious ones at that, toward reclaiming your strength, your body, and I suspect you'll find a whole lot more. Lift on, and welcome to the boards...

Thanks guys (gender-neutral term, I don't use y'all, even if I reside in Texas). I look forward to being a part of the boards here.

Happy New Year!

Welcome aboard liftintexas. Are you going to start a workout log? I found it to be one of the best sources of encouragment.

I haven't published a log for others to see before. I'll probably do that once my sessions with the trainer end in mid-Jan and I'm on my own.

Welcome, liftintexas. Good luck on getting back your form. And good idea about posting to a log ... keeps you honest and motivated and you get some great feedback.
