Question

Would you guys like to see a seperate forum in here exclusively for Martial Arts training? I don't like to get things to broken out from general fitness, but we have quite a few people in here with a lot of background. I already have about three people in mind for forum leaders who could be the resident experts. If you think it would be a great addition or if you think it would take too much away from the fitness discussion, sound off in this thread please!

I'm not sure it's truly needed. I rather like the "cross cultivation" of training discussion. But, if you decided to add it, I'd participate. I suppose it could always be pulled if it seemed too isolated of inactive. Could be worth a shot. How's that for a solid answer?

I would read it just to gain some knowledge. I do not personally use any martial arts but have some buddies that do and might get them to check it out.

Sounds like a pretty good idea to me. At least worth a shot to see how it flies.

I don't know.

I was just thinking along these lines today. It was cool that as a fitness site we had such a diverse cross section of people. Powerlifters, bodybuilders, bodyweight guys, crossfit people, olympic people. Seems like to break one out we would need to break the fitness forum into a tonne of subcategories I don't feel we need.

What I do think we need is a general activity outdoor forum for outdoor activities other than running, adventure racing and tri-athalons, but I guess I could just get into the habit of going and visiting ODBs site for that stuff!

You could replace the golf discussion group with the martial arts group.

No need to fall on your sword, Bill! I like the golf forum, even if it doesn't get much action. It's easy enough to create forums, and if it doesn't take off, just transfer all the good posts back to the fitness forum.

Og, I will take your advice... PM me with some idea of what you would like to see. I don't think running gets ANY action, so I could just nix that one.

Quit having a pity party mary. Your negative attitude is seen, and understood by all. Either stand by what you say or don't say it.

I guess it isn't fair to say it gets no action... I should rephrase that to say that I haven't really posted there. I will leave it if there is activity. I would actually love to see it take off! (no pun intended)

Wow... You were right. It is busier than the rock climbing forum, which I just renamed the "general outdoor fun discussion" (thanks for the ideas, OG).

I'd be less likely to read up on diverse training such as martial arts if it had its own forum, much like I don't look too much into multi-sport training (unless I'm on a triathlon kick) or mountain biking (since I don't have a bike). However, I do frequent the running boards because I tend to run a lot now. Before this past March, I wouldn't have looked in so much. I guess the bottom line is that I read and learn about more diverse training methods--and might even try them out at some point--if they're mixed in with the other stuff I regularly read rather than off in their own corner that I'd never visit. Here's a nickel--I want some change
