Been gone for a few days because of Xmas.
About the Cable station....I'll be posting the specs tomorrow once I'm back at work with my CAD system.
Personally, I can't weld or do anything fancy like that. We're carpenters in my family, so I've gotten creative just from working in the family business.
The cable station has a wood base and ceiling mount, with galvanized pipe and (gasp!) plumbing fittings for the main plate mount. I discovered that 2" or 2 1/4" pipe is VERY close to an Oly bar in diameter...and the plates fit great over it.
I'll measure up everything today when I lift.
Mike

I attached it to the beams in my basement, as well. And, just like you, it shook my house.
So now I am using a bungee cord to attach the bag to the beams. The max strength of the cord was 20lbs, so I looped it around 4-5 times and then closed the "hands" of the cord so that it could hold the weight.
I also duct-taped the swivel/eyelet type doo-hicky in order to stop it from swaying and rubbing as much.
This cut down on the noise/earthquakes A LOT. Now all that you can hear is some clicking.
I can take a picture of it if you dont know what I'm talking about.

They're coming along, man!
My "slow" week at work last week turned into a hell of a busy week, and my 2 partners were on vacation!
I'm about 3/4 of the way done with them....I'll post them when I get a chance!

There's a free standing pullup station on that website above that I'm sure dip bars could easily be added to...mainly all 2x4's it appears.

How bout a dumbbell rack. I know pretty easy with some metal or wood, but some of us arent as handy with that stuff and directions would be cool. I have up to 50 lbers so it would have to support all that weight. I could go buy one for 50 bucks, but wouldn't mind constructing one for half the cost.
Thanks!

Glute Ham Raise? Don't you just need something to hold your feet down? A barbell with enough weight, with the right sized plates should do fine i think.

Hi,
I'm just another lurker(mostly) haha,
I'de be interested in:
Power Rack/Squat Rack (possible with Plate holders)
Pullup/Dip Station (possible with Plate holders)
Cable Machine using Olympic Plates(possible with plate holders)
Plate holders on them would be useful, aswell as making them more stable. And a cable machine using plates we allready have would be awesome, although you probably allready thought of these things. Just some ideas...

I just found plans for a Weight Tree:

Power Rack:
Quote:
Homemade Power Rack Recently, Plate Loader of the IOL posted pictures of his homemade power cage that was constructed of wood. His was a pretty creative solution that was simple to build and didn't cost a lot - less than $100. (I imagine it could be built for even less with salvaged lumber - Wicked) Here is a picture of the rack and of the dipping bar attachment:

Here's what Plate Loader had to say about its construction:
"I made this one out of wood until I could get a commercial rack. It worked so well I ended up keeping it there. I had 465 lbs. across the supports with no creaks or squeaks. The whole thing set me back about $95-$100. It's 2x6s, black 1" pipe and all 1/2" hardware. The pipe is used for chin bar, dip bars and plate holders etc. The removeable supports attached with big wing nuts. The 2nd photo is a close up of the dip bar attachment. You can see the smaller upper supports for squats or overhead presses. Crude but strong - and CHEAP."
|
Rings (I'm going to try making these):
Quote:
Gym Rings
After a recent thread discussing (in part) ring training, Jim C writes, "gym rings can be very easily made from 1" PVC pipe. I heated a couple 26-inch lengths in the oven for 5-minutes at 350 F, then wrapped them around 8-inch diameter iron weight plates (10 pounders). They are cheap and sweet."

you get a cheap tricep bar ( found one for around 10 dollars)
one such as
http://www.amazon.com/Weight-Bar-Sta.../dp/B000A6T9QK
(im sure you can find a cheaper one)
Then you cut right above the handle on both sides and you have your self adjustable kettleballs
