Default Squats or Deadlifts - which one wipes you out more?

I'm relatively new to deadlifts, and am doing them as part of the Break-In routine in NROL. I really like them and am glad to see that they are in all of the programs in the book, in one shape or form.

However, I've noticed that when I'm done with my squats, I feel really wiped out (in a good, 'that sure was a great couple of sets' way). When I do my deadlifts, I still feel pretty wiped out, but the feeling's not the same (or as wiped out) as when I squat.

I was wondering if the rest of you guys felt like this. I can deadlift more than I can squat, and have decided not to use straps on my deadlifts in order to build up my grip, so maybe my squat will surpass my deadlift weight?

Thanks for the comments.

S.

I'm like you, squats wear me down way more. I think it's because in a squat you're under the load the whole time, while during deads, you put the weight down every rep.

Nice choice of programs w. NROL. Which program do you plan on doing after the break-in?

For me, I have a pitiful squat. My last PR was 200 last January. I don't know my current. My DL however is 340. The 340# deadlift takes a lot more out of me than a 200# squat. The maximal load is the same, as, at the time, 200# was all I could do and was 100% of my max, the same with the 340# and the dead. I'm just more of a puller than a squatter (6' and growing w/ long arms and legs), so I've put more emphasis on that as well. New Year's brings the shifting of focus from the dead to the squat.

Deadlifts really do me in. If I do them right, I feel it all over.

Deads drain my whole system more

The lift you are more advanced at is going to drain you more.

For me, I feel squats alot the day after.. but then nothing. Deads is slow and nagging for a few days if I do reps or change my stance.

Considering I can't squat for s***, deadlifts hit me harder.

Deads. I've fallen on the floor after doing them.

I just started the Break-In routine last week. I’ll most likely stay on that routine for another couple of weeks, then I’ll follow the profile for Lifter #1-The Eternal Beginner. I’ll hit Fat Loss I, Fat Loss II, Hypertrophy I, Hypertrophy II. That should put me right at vacation time. I’ll take a week off while on vacation, but truth be told I’ll most likely get in a few runs and some bodyweight workouts. I’ll feel bad for not doing anything, so I figure any exercise will be better than none, at least from a mental health standpoint.
