Ok, here's my question. I was going back and forth on whether I should order Cosgrove's "Program Design Bible". Do you think it's worth the price? Or should I go and find something else to spend 150-ish $ on?
P.S: Sorry I didn't get to clarify a lot of information, as it is past-midnight here and I'm really really sleepy. If you need some information so you can answer honestly, ask away. Thanks

Cool, Pat Rigsby is on here! I've been enjoying your blog for some time now.
Alwyn's bible is going to be my next purchase.

Thanks for replies everyone. However, I do have another question that's similiar to Lost Dog's. This may be a valuable item to a trainer, but is it as valuable to a regular gym-goer? You know, the guy who goes to the gym to increase his weights and size and lean out? Moreover, what "goals" does the manual cover? I'm thinking it's geared more toward athletic improvement, but please correct me if I'm mistaken. Thanks a lot for the help everybody.
Ok, so it's not going to be my credit card since I'm only 17 years old. Rather, I'm going to use my sister's card. She looked at the price and was a bit shocked, so she told me that she'd buy me anything but not at that price right now. So, I'm going to hold off Alwyn's bible until I'm 18 (which is only a couple of months away). However, I've been looking up Alwyn's blog and I noticed something called "Interrogations". He recommended a hypertrophy book by a coach called "Jason Ferrugia". I usually never read this stuff. But, I've heard his name a few times on T-nation, and it's enough that Alwyn recommended him for me to believe in what he writes. Here's the link if anyone is interested in checking it out: http://www.thehardgainer.com/
I'm thinking of getting this as soon as I can (which is, most likely, tonight). So I'll be waiting on what you guys have to say. Thanks
Alwyn's book is outstanding as is anything he writes. YOu are not a trainer, so if I were you, I would get his NROL if you dont already have that one, and yes, check out Ferrugi'a Hardgainer (How to get jacked). It is excellent. Those two books will be a great start for you.
I've been guilty of "program hopping" in the past, and now that I've found NROL, I think I have finally found a book/program that I am excited about enough to stick with for the course.
I'll have a look at Ferrugia's book as well. I hate to think of all of the wasted time I spent looking for the 'perfect program' when I could have been following NROL type workouts. It was tough to get the whole idea of training on a movement based structure as opposed to a body part split, but it naturally makes most sense.
Obviously some books are written more towards trainers/coaches, but does anyone have a good list of books to look out for that are specifically for the gym goer? (maybe this needs to be a separate thread?)
Thanks,
S.

I think that the question is .. Does the Gym goer want to make his own programs or is he satisfied with the gereric (ABSOLUETLY EXCELLENT, but not "made to measure") programs available.
I'm definately looking into program designing for myself. I've started experimenting.. and need the tools and have asked Santa for Ian King's book.. (as I said in the other thread)

Not to discourage from purchasing what I expect is an excellent product. However, please allow me to caution you, at your age in particular, to only spend money you have. If you have the $150, but just need the credit card to purchase, then that's different.
Still, if you don't have New Rules of Lifting, then I would heartily recommend that. There is a ton of great, essential information in it, and you get a lot of Alwyn's programming as well. It's only about $20. Maybe your sister would buy it for you! Then save up to get Alwyn's program design manual if your want info and detail at the next level and beyond.

Well, I have the money, but no credit card. So, yeah! I do have NROL and I really like the info in it. I still don't know why I didn't use the programs in it. I think I'll start following NROL until I become 18 and have my own credit card. Then I can get Chad's new book. My sis is a bit scared of sending a photocopy of her credit card via fax or e-mail.

OK, sounds good. Can't blame your sister; it's good to be cautious with such matters. Of course, she could order for you, with you as the shipping address. Then you could send her the money.
I've only been very pleased with any product of Alwyn's I've purchased, and I've purchased several. At this point, the man is essentially my sole trainer, through his materials.

I also think that you might want to gain more experience and read more programs before investing in Programming for yourself.. The Programs in NROL are definately worth living through!
but.. when it does come to buying a book with your sister's credit card.. she can probably order it for you and HAVE IT DELIVERED TO YOUR ADRESS.. (*EDIT* oups.. it's been said)..

HA HA! Beat you too it, Mary!
Mary you could buy it and have it shipped to MY address, with a "Merry Christmas" note attached.
Well, it still would be the same problem. When she ordered it, she entered the shipping address as my address. They still asked for identification. However, my sister refused to do it. I can't force her to do it either. So I guess I'll follow NROL for now until I have my own card.
