Default Advanced?

Dave Tate wrote a program for Berardi's PN members. In that he explained that the program was for beginners or intermediate. He said that a way to work out whether you are advanced or not is if you were considering doing this program.

Basically i understood that to mean that advanced lifters aren't advanced if they are following a program written by someone else as they should know how there body responds and write there own program.

Thoughts?

If that's what he said, I can't agree with that. A total newb could consider doing a program, any program. I don't think knowing how to put one's own program together qualifies someone as advanced either. But it usually correlates pretty close. A definition would be tough because you can be advanced in one aspect and not in another. An advanced marathon runner may very well be a novice lifter. It's not perfect, but my basic definition of advanced is someone who's been lifting consistently and effectively for their particular goals for 2 years.

Couple of things.

The program he wrote is for developing maximal strength. His quote is "Advanced max strength lifters don't need a program in the first place. That's the definition of advanced - you've spent plenty of time under the bar,you know your body well, and you're able to design your own programs".

I would agree with that.

Guess I didn't read it closely enough. Was wondering why then any program written for advanced people actually existed.
