Default Running shoes

Hi, I am planning to pick up running shoes. A little about myself - run about 10 miles a week, over pronated feet - right more than left. I suppose I should be looking at motion control shoes like Adidas' AdiStar but read somewhere Bill Hartman saying how they are no good. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Running shoes I only trust New Balance, Asics, and Brooks.

I am an overpronator and slightly heavy. The Asics kayano series have made me a huge fan. A great supportive motion control shoes.

Go to a local RUNNING SHOP and explain what your situation is. They will guide you through it.

i second the Running Store idea. Sure you'll end up spending more than if you picked it up on the 'net, but your body will thank you repeatedly after that as the danger of picking the wrong shoes is pretty high.

A lot of running stores will let you return your shoes if they give you problems. The local place here in town (Gazelle's) let's you bring back your shoes if they cause issues or pain. Most running shops are very knowledgeable and can help you find the correct shoes.

Bring an old pair of running shoes to the shop with you so they can check the pattern of wear and analyse your gait.

Once you do find a pair that works for you, there are a ton of online retailers where you'll save a boatload of money. I would definitely recommend that you let a local running store (not footlocker or anything like that, but a real running store) watch you run and make suggestions... I generally will buy the first pair there (to support the store and to "pay" for their expertise) and then any replacements online... but that's just me.

If one foot behaves differently than the other, do you also have a leg length discrepancy? Bill noticed this on me as well... might want to look into getting some PT or a good RMT to get you squared away.
