Default QN wt lifting science, rate of progress

I had never read a book on weight lifting before this year, and started with NROL. As a result I quit doing machines (except for pulls), and don't do Rep Reboks as often.

Then bought a couple more book including Testosterone Advantage. Interestingly copywrited in just 2002 it recommends quite a few machines which are generally not recommended in newer books. And it shows several of the 'minor' exercises that we do in Rep Reboks.

Can anyone enlighten me regarding how fast the science/controversy on these sorts of exercises has developed over the last 5-10 years.

Thanks, Rob

everyone has differing opinions on machines, and where they should fit in your program, and you'll see different opinions with each author, just like you'll see different ways to approach the training.

I believe machines CAN be used, but the wide majority of your training should come from free weight exercises.

Have you read Starting Strength yet? It's one of the most comprehensive books that i've read when it comes to talking about core lifts.

Meant to note that the 4 pages on muscles, are alone worth the price of Testerone Advantage Plan They are done with drawings instead of photos, and give the best lessons I have ever seen on what muscles do what at a beginners' level.

Have you checked out Strength Training Anatomy? That's a pretty good simple inexpensive book that does the same thing with a lot of different exercises..

Lou Schuler is on the New Rules Of Lifting sub forum more often - ask him.
