Who are you? You seem to be well known and highly respected, so I thought I would give you an opportunity to post your bio and tell us a bit about yourself. Sounds like I should perhaps consider changing your title to "fitness expert." I'm glad you've joined us and I want to get to know you better.

Actually, it probably should be "Nutrition Guru."

Sometimes, especially in the fitness industry, guru can have a negative connotation. I vote for Nutrition Expert.
Alan may want to add something more, but here's the bio from his website, AlanAragon.com.

News to me and I don't really understand the reasoning, but I'll accept your word on it.
It just seems that Expert is already used, so something with a little pinache would go better. Perhaps Sage?

The word expert is overused, abused, and "self appointed" MOST of the time. Let your peers in the field bestow that title onto you rather that you do it yourself
In fact, can someone here please tell me how to change the wording above your picture(the one that shows up in your posts) on this site. Mine says Fitness expert and I have been trying to change it to something else.

There's something significant about this. My company has us do our own PADRs (Performance and Development Reviews). They claim it's a "Know Thyself" approach to success, but I think it's just a move to eliminate the extra work for management.

Chaney, I changed that. As a sign of respect, when I know an actual professional has joined our ranks I change the title immediately. If you don't like it I can change it to whatever you want.

That's good. It has a more mature and developed sound to it.

True. Also think of this, and this is how I view it...
I am a fitness professional that provides fitness services and one of the services I provide is personal training. So many times you hear people say "personal trainer". Personal training is the service and I am a provider of that service. One can be a fitness professional and provide a myriad of services. It is more professional, separates us from the "personal training stigma" and MOST importantly gives credibility to the field. I feel if people start using "fitness professional" more, sooner or later the public will adopt that we ARE professionals.

Jean,
Thanks for giving me the stand, but I think the real question is.... Who are YOU? Who is the man behind the website that has drawn the current crop of industry upstarts?????
About me being well known, it's true that the less of a real life I have, the more my online fame continues to climb, heh. I'm just a working class stiff, just like the majority of us. I got my personal training certifications during a time in my life where I thought I'd make a career out of it, but eventually I discovered my real strengths were nutritional counseling, diet design, writing, & teaching.
Lisa posted my academic achievements, but what my bio might not quite convey is that I am an absolute nut for this stuff. I pride myself on being honest to a fault. I'm research/science-biased when it comes to my stance on various nutritional issues. I love to learn as well as teach. I'm also big on independent thought & entrepreneurship for those who feel cut out for it.
Let's see, what else... I'm an unrepentant bodybuilding fan, & have been for as long as I can remember. I love pizza & pasta. And peanutbutter & dark chocolate. Trader Joe's "pound plus" is not only the best tasting dark chocolate I've had (& I've had many), it's also the best deal.
I have a VERY patient wife, 2 kids, a 2 year-old & a 2 month-old.
And I need waaaaaaaaay more friggin sleep.
Thank you & goodnight.

So that's who Alan is...
Ok JP, step up... Bart Simpson voice "who the hell are you?"
(the funny part is...if you don't, there's likely to be a rash of stability ball training pictures from out of nowhere...)
Ps can you change the "senior" above my Avatar to "Prime Of His Life"

Alan is correct in saying that he is honest. I have learned as much from his posts as any here, and mostly because of that honesty. For example, he is willing to say there is no evidence for something even if he supports it (like the concept of higher meal numbers), and always seems to be up on the research (or knows where to find it!). Check out the nutrition forum for some great discussions he has contributed to.
