I built one out of wood, two bars and two hooks for about 80ish dollars. Comes with a chinup bar, dip handles - removable dip handles, because they kept hitting the plates on the one side of my bar when I was squatting, safety 'pins' which is really just more wood.. and that's it. Sturdy though, so I'm satisfied.

FitnessFactoryOutlet has a PowerLine Power Rack on sale for $200. Not sure if it's any good, but price seemed reasonable. Free shipping too I think.

Check the classified ads. They are full of equipment that has been used for 3 or 4 weeks and is now being used to hang laundry. Last year I bought eight 45 pound plates for $60 (after talking them down from $75).
I will probably never lift that much, but it was too good of a deal to pass up.

The entire main floor of where I live is held up by wooden joists.
Wood could work, although I would be certain to overbuild that sucker with high quality wood.
Also depends on how much weight your squatting. My #s aren't that high, I could probably get away with wood.
Just my 2 cents.

I had a picture of it in a thread here last november, I just searched for it but the picture doesn't work anymore. I'll take some new pictures and post them for you tomorrow night.
Og, the most I've squatted on it was just over 200, so it hasn't yet been used to its full potential. But as far as I can tell, it should hold well into the 300s at least, providing you build it right.

Ok so I took a few pictures, but since it gets dark here early they didn't turn out very well. I did what I could with them in the crap editing program that I have, but you can barely see anything. So I'll take more during daylight and post them as soon as I can.
