I have to agree with Kevin. This thread is nothing but an internet pissing contest. Definitely something that shouldn't have defiled the JP forums. Last time I checked Kevin didn't ask anyone for business or marketing advice.
Dan Kennedy always says that he never hands out evaluation/feedback forms when he gives seminars because he doesn't think the people are fit to critique him. I think the same is true here. PLUS, Kevin never asked anyone to sign up. So I don't see why people feel the need to let the world know if they are going to become a fitcast insider member. Eric Cressey, Mike Robertson, Bill Hartman, and Craig Ballantyne all have promoted products on this forum and no one gives them a hard time.
"EC, I can't believe you are going to charge $100 to people so they can read about how to train in the off season. No one will buy that when they can just read your articles for free on T-nation" (I've read EC Offseason Manual and it is worth every cent.)
Doesn't that sound ridiculous? So get off Kevin's back...

And you get off your high horse.
We're trying to help him make the fitcast better. Better, doesn't mean bigger. How has ANYONE, absolutely ANYONE said that the fitcast is crap? They haven't.

Personally, I'd like to see this happen. At the present, I can't pay with my current debt situation, but I see nothing wrong with it.
The two best pieces of business advice I've heard were:
Plan for success as well as failure.
Buy low, sell high.

Whoah, hold on there a second Michael.
First of all, I wasn't critical of Kevin, but supportive. Making money is the American way and I think he needs to do what he needs to do.
Second, I know him personally, so I think I can offer him busines advice. As a matter of fact, when he was first conceptualizing FitCast before it ever got in the air, we were discussing it.
Third, I run my own business and teach marketing, management and entrepreneurship classes at the university level, so people actually pay to learn the stuff that I am offering Kevin for free.
Fourth, Alan and I were goofing around with the statistical talk, but it lead to some points being brought up that I hope can help Kevin succeed.
Fifth, Kevin thanked me for the advice I offered in this thread.
I'm only going to talk for myself since I've only scanned some parts of this thread and read others, but if you are commenting on my advice to Kevin, I think you are really off base. I'm going to guess you are talking to the other people who have been giving him negative feedback, but since I was one of the last ones to post here, I am not sure how you could have missed my threads and seen them as anything but positive.
PS: I'm not sure why Dan Kennedy would say that, but in academia, the best professors are the ones who ask for voluntary (and anonymous) feedback from their students. Kaizen - continuous improvement. I do it twice per class every semester in an effort to make sure I am meeting the needs of my paying customers (my students, in this case). Only the short sighted or egotistically arrogant wouldn't welcome feedback from their customers.

Well, I already did the interviews with EC, TG, RC. I am doing ones with CB, CF, MR by wednesday.
I will be doing ones with AC, BH, MR, Ryan Lee, Jim Labadie, Charles Staley, Alan, Jimmy Smith, and I got about 5 more surprises, not John Basedow.

Nick, you are provoking pointless arguments.
I am not going to argue about this.
This is the last post of mine in this thread.
To Kaiser, Gabe, Alan, Mike, and other, thanks for the advice and support.
Kevin Out.

Not everyone is like JP, willing to put up his own cash so we can be entertained!

^^This is why internet forums have the potential to be true sleeper gems for those willing to keep an open ear. Every once in a while, you'll run into an honest to goodness expert in the field dishing out his expertise for nothing else but the love of the game.
The original purpose of open forums, internet or other, is for the unbridled expression of views. I think some great points were made in this thread, even though it can potentially be misconstrued as a derailment of Kevin's original aim due to a minor amount of lighthearted hairsplitting.
In the end, communication is good. That's what my wife taught me
Thanks to all... And Kevin, hats off to your early start. when I was 20 I was still throwing shit out of hotel room windows after playing shows on the Sunset Strip.
Lookin' forward to the Fitcast interview.

I'm closing this thread since it has gotten so far off track. It has had some gems, as Alan pointed out, so I don't want to get rid of it (hell, I'm taking notes!).
Kevin, you're doing a great job. No big project ever just takes off the first time without a hitch, but the people who are successful just learn from it and adjust their approach. I wish I had been as focused as you when I was your age. That will be an interesting discussion another thread.
