Post workout vommiting problem
It's strange, Ive been in the iron game since about 14 years old. Ive gone through 5 hour long wrestling workouts that left me dead on the ground, but I've never puked from a workout until yesterday. Me and my roomate have been making some crazy gains lately, feeding ourselves like veal calves and breaking PRs like they are nothing. Yesterday we both crushed our PR on bench during a horizontal push pull day and halfway during the workout I felt a little dizzy but i continued and finished. By the end, my face was flushed and we spent a good 15 minutes in the locker room with me sitting down until I could stand. Funny part it, that I made it to the car, back home and the second I got out I puked for the first time from a workout. I didnt have my usual post workout shake so I blamed it on that and made sure not to skip it today. Today was deep squats and after yet another PR on my 4rth set(which was a 30 lb increase on 8 reps since my last 4x8 attempt) I immediately felt like shit and found my self running to the bathroom where I puked a good 6 six times. The strange thing was I felt amazing afterwords. My question is why now? Its not like Ive never bulked and broke PRs before, and could this be potentially dangerous?

Lactate induced vaso vagal symptoms. The drop in blood pressure puts you on the floor and stimulates the nausea.

seriously though, any thought on how to take precausionary measures on this? Sucks to eat so much to gain weight only to lose it to the toilet from the in hole, not the out hole.

Yeah and since Bill used the word "lactate," that must mean you have boobies too.

So have you picked out the new name yet, Steve? Stephanie's nice but I think you should go with "Stevie". :p

Yeah, you can seek to model yourself after a rock star, of sorts, Stevie Nicks. There's someone you can aspire to be, and on the way you can eliminate the annoyance of having to blow two nostrils when blowing your nose and just do enough coke to destroy the tissue separating it
On an actual on-topic note, I've noticed that the only times that I've actually gotten nauseous (or thrown up as happened once in Iron Manual), was when I was actually pretty dehydrated when going into the workout. Of course, if it's not a brutal workout, I wouldn't notice as much, but for some reason when I'm dehydrated, my stomach feels a little off (though nothing specific, kinda hard to place, just 'icky'). This is the first sign to me now that I should make a note to drink a lot more water, and all the better if I realize it early enough for my body to process it before my workout.

this is what I thought this morning. I drank about 25oz before, hit the cooler after every set and then boom.

I'm not aware of anything you can do to stop the throwing up.
During some of our research in the lab almost everyone chucks. Depends on how used to lactate accumlation you are.

Just make sure a dog is around and you won't have to clean up as much after yourself. Also, get a sports bra and keep your vagal area clean! :p
Actually, I used to have this problem, especially on leg day. The gym owner used to unlock the back door for me ahead of time on my leg days. Course, that was back in my young (stu-stu-stoooo-pid) bodybuilding days!

JP, is there a thread anywhere where you discuss some of the things that you used to do that you now look back at as being stupid? I've alread resisted the urge to re-bump the swiss ball pics, but it would be a good topic for many people to read so that they can avoid doing something that seems like a good idea, but in hindsight really isn't. I guess this could be a "Training Secrets" thread, like the one we have going right now, but along a different line.

In relation to the dehydration deal (which I do believe can be a cause of the puking), drinking a bunch right before or the day before isn't going to cut it if you are dehydrated. Bad dehydration isn't a one or two day deal, it's a longer period of being stupid and not drinking enough water. So, in order to be hydrated properly next week, you need to start drinking today. This could also just be your bodys way of saying "give me a break".

I really dont think its dehydration. I go through at least 2 2L pitchers of crystal light a day in addition to any water im constantly sucking down water from wherever i can find it.

I've managed to avoid overt upchucking, but have retasted breakfast a few times. What seems to help me is 15-20 grams of carb before workouts. Or at least that is my excuse for those 3 or 4 pieces of Dove dark chocolate before I workout. Seriously it did seem to do the trick. Rob
