Question Weak Grip not due to Weak Grip

Could there be something causing me to have a weak grip other than weak muscles related to grip? Maybe something neurological or some whacky trigger point?

I'm starting to wonder this, because sometimes I'll drop things for no reason that are extremely light (less than a pound.) On the bar, I pull out the straps for anything over 225, or even less if I'm going for higher reps.

Do you feel anything before it gives out? Twinges, etc.

I have a strong grip that gives suddenly, but not with light weights. Although, occasionally, I'll get a spasm or cramp when contorting my fingers some strange way.

I've got some numbness in the hands and fingers, though. My doctor diagnosed it as ulnar neurapathy.

When I met Bill Hartman, last year, he helped me with it quite a bit. Seems the muscles in my forearms were (and still are) ridiculously tight. Multiple, daily stretching sessions have helped a lot. I have to remember to keep it up.

Bill also showed me some self-ART tricks for the forearm, but it's just not the same...

I still have the numbness to some degree, but it's less. My grip is better, but still not 100%. My forearms have also become more muscular, magically, since I've been doing this. I guess they had no room to grow.

I use straps more now, than I used to. At this point, I'm looking for strength, overall, more than improving my grip.

I have no numbness or anything like that.

Yeah, I'm wondering if this is a possibility.

My grip is weak in both hands.

On another forums, someone mentioned that my tiny hands could be part of the issue in holding on oly bar.

Yes, it can be more than just you being weak (but that could be a possibility too, haha). ART has yielded good increases in grip strength.

Jeff

I have seen with some people that they tend to get a lot stronger in their larger muscle groups, but not so much in the smaller ones. Have your lifts jumped up recently? Are you pushing or pulling a lot more weight. If you are, it doesnt necessarily mean that your grip strength has increased...
Some people just need some extra work with their grip.

Keith, no haven't made any gains in the past year, due to my shoudler problems.

Maybe you and Sully are right, I just need more grip work.

Have you gone in and got an MRI for your shoulder yet?

Sully, were there any particular areas that made a difference?
