What is the best way to breathe during a deadlift? Should I take a breath and lift while holding it. This is very hard for me. I don't have the problem on other lifts.

I guess that should say "deadlifts and breathing"
Bet I got your attention. :-\

breathe out while lifting, in when lowering. you may find though that you naturally hold your breath on the initial pull (valsalva maneuver). nothing wrong with that. i think i do that on pretty much ever lift (especially when intensity increases).

Just wait until you do deadlifts with a 6:1:4 tempo! How the hell are you supposed to breathe during that?!

it's actually better to have deeper breathes then the smaller, quicker breathes. deeper breathes cause more oxygen to actually reach the lungs, rather than smaller quicker breathes where a lot of it basically hangs out in your throat, esophagus, trachea, etc. (anatomical dead space).
