Default Working a muscle group once a week...

I'm quite new to lifting, so please understand if this is a dumb question.

I've heeded the warnings of a few friends and only work a muscle group once a week.

Legs/deads/squats on tuesday
Arms, chest, and shoulders on thursday
Core on sunday

Generally speaking, about 3-4 days after my workout I'm no longer sore. Does this mean my msucles are done healing? And if so, would I get better results if I started doing each cycle twice a week?

Thanks in advance!

Try it and find out is the best answer. Everyone is different.

But on that..

I really think you should look into a different program, something like NROL or some of chad waterburys programs.. You will make better gains then what you are doing.

I hope that you'll read this article by Adam Campbell and Alwyn Cosgrove:

Inside the Muscle Laboratories

Then read this follow-up from Alwyn:

Breaking Glass

After reading those, I doubt that you'll still think that training each body part once a week is a good idea.

Thank you very much, Lisa. I found this article incredibly informative.

The wife will be getting me NROL for xmas, and until then I'll definately put a lot more thought into my workouts.

Thanks again,
Matt

mmMatt,

What are your goals, now? Strength, getting bigger, getting leaner...

Maybe we can suggest a workout to get you going until you get the book.

At the moment my main goal is strength. I'd just like to get my numbers up before I start working specifically on size.

Matt - As a new lifter you will find progress in just about anything you do. Full body routines, in my opinion, are going to give the the greatest rewards right now. I suggest you search for a routine that includes the basic major compound moves and stick with it for several weeks. HGM, New Rules and Book of Muscle are a few I have read and/or done and like. Find what peaks your interest and get on it. Best of luck. But remember. Full body, compound. You can't go wrong. I started New Rules myself Yesterday.

Chad Waterbury's Big Boy Basics would be a great place to start.

Lou's doing it and he wrote NROL. Must be good.
