I read somewhere that it has to do with your body weight. But yeah, I drink close to a gallon maybe a little more or less...

I've read up on water and have found many sources say this:

You should be taking in "X" ammount of water per hour (based on your weight)

But it always comes out to pretty damn close to a gallon for the day.

Don't do this:
It's late at night, oh shit, I haven't gotten in those last 32 ounces of water I need *chug chug chug*. Never drink a substantial amount of water in a very short time period. Why? It can kill you. Ever drank water really fast and felt really weird aftewards like you were bombed off your arse drunk? I know I have, it's from the salt being diluted in your body from excess water, it causes your brain cells to swell with water thus causing your actual brain to swell naturally inside your skull and cause pressure, this is called hyponatremia and yes, it can be fatal and has many times (precautionary, if you do this by accident and realize it eat something really salty). So PLEASE find a water intake schedule over the day and stick to it. Don't let this scare you away from water it's very vital, just be smart about it and plan it out, just like you do your food. You will insure you get proper amounts (your body weight in pounds cut in half and converted to ounces, or 1 gallon) and that you are getting them in proper spaced out time frames to maintain water to salt ratios in your body. Heres to not dying! lol, stay healthy

About two years ago I had kidney failure, poisoned myself at work (research chemist). I was at home for 6 days thinking I had the flu and I figured I would beat it down by drinking around 5-6 liters of water a day. I ended up pretty bloated, couldn't pee, and I had hyponatremia. Its a very serious condition and if you rush too much salt back into your system then it will likely crystallize in your brain and kill you. So ya take it easy on the water and remember to always wear gloves when playing with chemicals. My kidneys made a 100% recovery btw but I spent 6 more days in the hospital and had to undergo dialysis, only once, but it sucks.
