On page 220 of the book, it is recommended you get three drinks (before, during & after) and each serving of Biotest surge which is again recommended by Berardi has 42g of sugar. Your total daily intake just with these drinks goes up to 126g.
"According to the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, it's recommended no more than 8 teaspoons/day of added sugar based on a 2,000 calories/day diet. That’s 32 grams if you’re reading labels, and about 6% of your total calories for the day"
Aren't we consuming too much sugar putting us at a risk of diabetes or something? Just concerned..
No. You really don't want to listen to anything that the ADA produces. At best, it's for the average joe. But the average joe could do better...
Now, in general, you don't want a lot of sugar. That's correct. But, around the workout, it's just fine. It has a specific purpose. Gatorade has a lot of sugar, but people running marathons are better for drinking it during the race. Surge is like a Gatorade for people lifting weights.
With your Surge (or other pwo beverage in similar proportions) you will lift more weight, since you'll have more energy. You will recover and build muscle quite a bit faster, too.
And i read that regular coke itself contains 40g of sugar and tons of average joes are already taking 2-3 coke cans a day, that too without any workout
BTW, although Surge is normally considered a post-workout drink, do you also use it for pre-workout? I'm using just plain whey & Gatorade for pre-workout and wondering if I should switch to surge
I don't currently use Surge at all. I use whey and Gatorade pre workout, during workout, and post workout.
Surge should be considered a workout drink, not just a post workout drink. Even over at t-nation, a lot of the authors suggest a 1/2 serving prior to the workout and another 1/2 serving pwo for a lot of their routines.
Truthfully, I don't know that Surge is that much more superior to Gatorade and whey if the rest of your diet is good. The big benefit to Surge is that "fast acting" protein. But, I eat protein all day, every 2.5-3 hours, so it's already ready. Doesn't need to be "fast," IMO.
If you're a pizza, chips, fries, and other crap eater all day, then Surge is probably better for you. Not you, specifically, by the way. Just an expression...
