I have worked out for years and am pleased with my routines and strength gains. However, what are your tricks to sticking to a "clean diet?" I eat pretty well throughout the weeks. However, 1-2 days a week I screw it up and eat something I should not. If I could stick to something for a longer period of time I think I would see better results as far as muscle tone.

I did better when I was living with other people that were trying to eat healthy. Even though my wife and I had different visions of healthy eating, we both new what was crap. So, it made it hard to go on a binge with a witness, right there.
Something you could do is challenge someone in a similar situation to a contest/goal and put something on the line (money, tickets to a game or movie, etc.).
I try to eat two small cheat meals a week and get in my favorites then so I don't crave them. I also find that the more active I can stay especially on weekends the less likely I am to stray from the program. Another trick you can use is to find healthy substitues for cheating snacks. Like whole grain tortilla shell pizzas with low or non fat cheese. Fat free, sugar free frozen desserts or puddings fit in nicely as well.

I've had difficulties, too. Sometimes I wish I *could* limit it to one or two cheats a week. Lately it's been um... a bit more than that.
Toughest thing seems to be keeping enough healthy stuff around. When the groceries are running low and I'm hungry, and I find my Mom just made lasagna, it's a lot easier to just give in. It's a lot more trouble to go out to the grocery store, buy some more spinach and chicken and carrots and then prepare a meal.

That's a good idea. Me and Gabe (Deserve) could try a wager like that here in Houston. Winner gets two tickets to a Texans football game. Loser gets four tickets.

Either way, the losers are still out on the field...

Most people use pasta made with white flour, 2 types of full fat cheese and sausage. Plus I have never seen anyone take a small piece of lasagna which would be the normal portion. So if you are doing low fat you are screwed and if you are doing low carb you are screwed.
It sure does taste good though.:p

I've found the best way to stick to the eating plan is to plan ahead as best as possible. I also plan when I am going to not follow my plan. It gives me something to look toward when I am craving something or just too lazy to eat right. I can convince myself to wait for that food or drink that I have planned for instead of blowing it on something that isn't really worth it.
It's just like any other lifestyle change, use any means necessary to make it work.

Just saw this. I'm going this weekend. Losers or not you still root for the home town boys.

Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
One day at a time. If I can just get through today I have done what I set out to do. If I screw up, stop and just start in with what I was doing before.
I cut myself a fair amount of slack, but I almost never have a cheat meal or (never) a cheat day. I use whey protein because I cannot get up to 200 grams per day otherwise. I DO NOT use any carbs unless they are veggies or they are favorite foods. So no sports carbs, every carb I eat is something I love. I will not waste a carb on with some sort of ..ose in a shake, I save it for things I like. I also spend a moderate amount more than I used to on favorite meats and vegetables. Much of my fruit is in the form of homemade no sugar pectin jam. Especially with a moderate carb piece of bread and peanut butter.
I have decided that satisfying my appetite psychologically is really important to staying on a diet. Everyone has different favorites and 'bottom lines', but you had better figure out how to satisfy them if you are going to stay on a diet. Deprivation is seldom the answer.
I do not eat clean al the time. No way. I am human, not a machine. From time to time I do eat something that I regret later and feel guilty. That is good for me. Keeps me straight the next few days. But I need those moments.

I used to "eat clean" and that helped me lose about 10 lbs. Then I read this book "Fire up your metabolism" (Lyssie Lakatos R.D., Tammy Lakatos Shames R.D.) And that helped me tighten up the belt another 10 - and keep it off. It's a great book, simple. I cheat about once a week, sometimes twice. So long as I plan ahead and make sure I'm not running late (work) it's pretty easy to stick with it.
