im having surgery my shoulder in a few weeks and the doctor told me no working out for 6-8 weeks. he told me absolutely NO weight training. i have been lifting for a while now, about 2 yrs. i am curious about how long it will take to lose muscle i have been building. Will 7 weeks of no lifting make me lose a signifigant amount of muscle? also if there are any tips such as a proper diet to maintain the protien my muslces during my rehabilitation. Im not "worried" about losing muscle, but i am curious to know how much 7 weeks of abstinence from lifting will effect me. also muscle are said to have memory to weight lifting, could i regain the muscle lost during the 7 weeks in 7 weeks? i know i sound worried or paranoid about my image, i am most just curious. i want to be educated before i have the surgery so that i am not shocked to see that i have lost large amounts of muscle.

You're not going to waste away by any means. You may lose a little strength and definition, but if you eat right, you shouldn't be too worried about gaining weight.

I would eat a at our a little above matienence calories while you are recovering. You should be able to retain the muscle you might loose while recovering from surgery, but IMO just focus on getting better first and for most.
