I am working my way through Week 4-6 of Stage 1 of the Intermediate program in BOM.
My question is are the more compound exercises such bench, squat, deadlift etc... supposed to be so damn hard. I mean on Week 1-3 I could easily do 95lbs. (don't laugh) bench w/ a 613 tempo, but now it's hard as hell.
Perhaps all the work w/ the isolatios exercises is pre-exhausting my muscles??? B/C I know I can lift more on the set rep ranges. Any thoughts...especially those who have been through the routine. Did you lift more on bench, deadlift and squat during Week 4-6 of Stage in Intermediate or had to drop the weight b/c you're muscles were already worked out??/

Thank you...hopefully I made myself clear.

Just finished that program (well, through week 20 and then my goals changed so I shifted programs).

Yep. It is exactly what you said. King is pre-exhausting your smaller supporting muscles first in an effort to prep them for the heavier lifting later. The first 6 weeks are still preparatory work. Next micro-phase, you won't have this anymore.

The fatigue on the bench (which is the last exercise done) means you are doing it right. BTW, don't sweat the numbers on the weights... just do it with good form and with the intensity King recommends. It'll work. But if it makes you feel any better, I was at very low weight when I got to the bench in that microphase too.

Keep with it - it's a great program.

I know exactly what you mean, I just finished weeks 4-6. It really bummed me out when I was barely putting anything up on bench, and hardly pulling anything on deads. Just work through it, it sucks, but so did the BOM Beginner and I was way stoked on the results, so I expect excellent results this time around even though the first part absolutely sucks.

I just finished BOM - Intmdt., and I'm almost certain I posted about this exact thing when doing Phase I. The early weeks of BOM are not very good for your ego. You get to move the big numbers in Phases 3 and 4, especially 4. Just keep pushing yourself hard for maximum benefit.
