First was a gym with no barbells. I'm travelling for work atm so went to check out a gym and while they had pictures on the wall describing how to do squats/deadlifts/bench/etc there wasnt a barbell in the entire place. Some dumbells and a lot of machines was all.
Second was a guy doing heavy squats. I think I've only ever seen 2 other people do squats and neither of them was moving anywhere near a heavy weight (or using good form). This guy worked up to about 350lbs with good form. I left before he got going, but it looked like he was setting up for deadlifts at about the same weight when I left. If I had stuck around and he did that would have been the first time I've seen anyone deadlift heavy. This was obviously at a gym I found that did have barbells

. A fairly good setup for what was basically a shiny commercial gym.
