It doesn't? I would think a mega barbell complex lasting the exact same time would fatigue him more thoroughly.

That was stupid.
Slow motions throughout, all machine work...
Ive never seen forced leg extension reps ever in my life. Yes, the rest intervals were non-existant. But I mean, look at the excercises.. machine flys? ab machine?
Put that work out with freeweights, dont be doing slow reps, and it will be better.

Wow...if I work out like that I get to look like him!?!
That was crusty pants...I used to train like that when I was a ridiculously weak, skinny 18yr old. Bit like that guy.
Some one send that guy a link to NROL.

I can't belive I wasted 16:41 minutes of my time to watch that video. If that guy said one more time,"if you are training by yourslef, then you are not training that hard", I was going to shoot myself.
That is why 50% of trainers do suck.

Thoughts
Hmmm, so that's real failure? Not that fake failure that everyone else does?
Looks like Super High Intensity Training (S.H.I.T.) to me
Overload Training promo, take 1:
Forget about those other trainers that help you to look and feel better. If you want to look small, weak, and fool yourself into thinking that you're doing something worth while, train with me.
I'll kick your ass fitness.
You'll be lifting half the weight you could on those productive training routines by spending 2 short weeks under my direct supervision
Simply by adding Lamaz breathing to your current machine-based S.H.I.T. rountine you to could make people think you're working harder than you actually are
Try our new acting class where we pretend to be training really hard.
At least Casey Viator did real squat with barbells vs. leg presses with 60 pounds
I have 50 year old female clients that can out lift this guy
Ignore science just pretend to train hard
Scientology really is a religion (oops, wrong forum)

I liked how hard his partner was pushing him, "Uh...like...eh....try to do one more...that's it....that's um...sufficent"

THANK YOU!
I stopped it when I saw the leg extension machine.
I am so sick and tired of this macho bullshit. I look better than that guy and I have probably 30 years on him. So who the hell works harder? Gee, I must not work very hard since I work out alone. I need someone to tell me to do another rep and to hold my puke bucket. I'd like to look him in the eye and say, come on over bitch and work out with me at 4:30 in the AM. Maybe this old fart can teach you a thing or two about intensity. He can be my towel boy, as far as I am concerned.

Ellington Darden's HIT book shows free weight workouts. I would be more impressed if he did those.

Looks like using free weights for this kind of workout would be dangerous without a spotter.
Some pretty harsh commentary on this.. is it simply because of the machine use? Or the almost religious belief that "this" kind of workout is "the way"?
Frankly, I'm open to try it. I won't be adopting this, or any other, kind of work out as the end all. I believe in mixing it up.
I'm also not sure I totally disagree with the idea that with a spotter you can work harder. Certainly, if a person is performing a "failure" workout like this, I can see that doing it without a spotter would be almost impossible. No?
Granted, these guys sound a bit fanatical. But I ignore fanaticism pretty easily. Doesn't bother me. They can believe what they want and I can still come away with a new idea.

We are all dumber for having watched this video....
BTW, Wonder what his salary is....might be worth the bet.
One last thing, I will be MY salary that I can prescribe a series or compound barbell or dumbbell complexes that will be harder than any leg extension training you might do.

Jimbo,
I wish I could ignore this stuff as easily as you do. I just get tired of people like these clowns, coming along and telling guys who work their asses off in gyms and basements around the world that what they are doing is all wrong or, in this case, that if they aren't using their method, they aren't working hard. And that crock about puking is the oldest piece of shit in the book and a workout myth that proves how lame they are in my book. So when someone tells me that if I don't workout with a partner and that I should have a bucket to puke in, pardon me if I am a little skeptical. I guess for someone to come along and make sweeping claims that what I have been doing for the last five years is all wrong or not as effective, given the results I have obtained, and then sit down at a leg extension machine, it does challenge the mind to have any faith in what they are doing.

Lets not forget that all three guys in the video don't even look like they lift weights.
Where are these guys located?

That guy was weaker than a baby's fart.
And who the hell does Nautilus hyperextensions anymore? Somewhere, Stuart McGill is weeping.
On the bright side, schmucks like this generate business for guys like me who spend their lives fixing people up!

Slow leg extensions? Wow, someone found a way to make leg extensions suck even worse! I'm impressed.
Any idiot can make someone tired and sore, it takes a trainer to make someone better.

Yeah, I can see where they touched a lot of folks nerves in here. I consider You, and many others here, serious lifters. And even being a novice myself, I can still see easily through all the hype they are peddling.
But I can't consider whether their practice is useless until I try it myself. Fact is, I wouldn't want to try this with free weights. I would think leg extension machine safer when doing this kind of thing. (I've been stuck under the squat bar before and it wasn't pretty)
What they are doing looks kind of crazy. I mean, I have worked hard, but never pushed through a rep after a near failure. Mostly because I, like yourself and many here, don't use a partner.
So would it be untrue to say that one can work harder with a partner?
