Default My Interview With Kevin Larrabee (What's COMING UP on TheFitCast?)

I just posted this in my blog, but I thought it might get some more reads here:

Quote:
KS: Hi Kevin, thanks for taking the time out for this interview. I remember that TheFitCast first started as a thread on JPFitness, how did you decide you wanted to host a fitness podcast?

KL: Before I got the idea for The FitCast, I listened to a few podcasts on a weekly basis. One of those is called Diggnation, John Williams (my co-host) and I both enjoy listening to it. Anyways, I was starting to get interested in the whole podcast format because you could create your own radio show, without a radio station. All you needed was a few mics, Skype and some audio editing skills.
So, after looking for a decent fitness and nutrition podcast and finding nothing worth listening to, I decided to give it a shot. At first we had the idea of four or five members of the forum getting together and discussion fitness topics, but instead I teamed up with John Williams and it just took off. I guess you could say our motto for the show was to just keep it casual and fun. And thankfully the fans liked it.

KS: When you first started TheFitCast did you ever think that it’d be as popular as it is now?

KL:
When I was beginning to put the show together for Episode 1 I was hoping for 200-300 listeners per week, tops. Then a strange thing happened. People just ate it up. We were very lucky to have guests like Craig Ballantyne, Bill Hartman and John Berardi in the early episodes. As the weeks went on people were posting about the particular episodes on Men’s Health, T-nation and other forums. Along with the forums, Adam Campbell made a mention on his blog about the show and John Berardi mentioned it in his newsletter. Now with 1600+ downloads a week, and growing by 50 listeners each week, we are just continuing to grow.

KS: In the past three months TheFitCast has really blow up. What do you think has made TheFitCast so popular?

KL: All of the chatting on other forums has really helped. Also on www.thefitcast.com we have had some great articles from Craig Ballantyne and Eric Cressey, with EC’s article on Yoga getting some major attention in the fitness world.

KS: TheFitCast eventually evolved into Video FitCast and TheFitCast Magazine, do you have any other plans for TheFitCast coming up? Maybe a FitCast seminar ?

KL: Well, that is a good question. Keep in mind I am only one man, and I am 20-years-old, and swamped with work at college. Who knows what the future holds. I am looking towards writing articles for diffrent fitness magazines on the internet, along with the articles I do for www.thefitcast.com and the other contributors I mentioned before (CB, EC). Maybe this summer I will have some time to make a huge announcement, I have a big idea right now, but don’t want to let it out quite yet…

KS: Who can we expect to be coming on the show?

KL: In the next few weeks look for Bill Hartman, Mike Robertson, another episode with Cassandra Forsythe, Chris Shugart again, Robert dos Remedios, and others. I have some big shows planned, with a theme of double guests, think Dave Tate and John Berardi.

KS: What’s next for you? Sure you have TheFitCast bringing us closer to fitness professionals than ever before, but where can people expect to see Kevin Larrabee in about a year?

KL: Well, you will see me at school still. I have 2 years left. I would like to be writing some more. And I really want to focus on fitness and nutrition at college, which is actually a topic of a future article I am finishing right now. Otherwise you will see me at any fitness seminar I can get to, as I just got back from the L.A. Strength Seminar, and I will be at Ryan Lee’s Bootcamp in 8 days.

KS: Well thank you for your time Kevin, I really appreciate it.

Nice interview, Keith and Kevin!

BTW, sweet shades Keith. They make you look like S.A. Martinez from 311.
