Default Lower Back pump.

I got this bad the other day.. wow.

My new goal in life is to never have to experience this again! What are some solutions? Ive read 3-5g of taurine can help minimalize it? Ive also heard some conflicting information about A.R.T and its benifit in the situation? Potassium?

Ive searched quite a bit on the issue and cant find to much. In all honesty, I keep finding myself on steroid websites for some reason.

These are very painful, and have only started happening recently. Anyone have any information on this?

Frank:

I can't offer any real advice, but I'm just trying to understand what you mean by "Lower Back Pump"?

Taurine will help, at least 5g a day, I'd use more like 10 though. 5g after a workout, 5g some other time. Potassium will help as well, bananas are your friend. Contrast showers and foam rollers are good too. And you find yourself on steroid websites because lower back pumps are a common side of prohormones.

Something else I forgot to mention, have you gained significant weight lately? As you become heavier, obviously your back has more to hold upright, and the pump can be because your back is working all day.

If that's the case, it will lessen as you get stronger.

Yeah I have gained some weight recently, thats a possibility i never thought of.

Keith. Imagine an arm pump, in the small of your back. It is very painful, im not really sure why.

I thought foam rollers and such were not supposed to be used on the lower back? is this true?

Eric was just telling me the other day to back off on all the lumbar-region "loosening" I was doing. I also seem to remember an article on the roller (possibly by Eric) that focused on thoracic mobility and mentioned you should avoid lumbar rolling. Perhaps someone will comfirm/correct this.

RH is right. No foam rolling on the lumbar area.

I was having similar back problems. Mine was because my hip flexors were tight and lost some mobility. When I would dead or squat, I was compensating with my back just enough to get that lumbar pump. I've really been working on stretching my hip flexors and doing additional hip mobility work, and haven't had any problems recently.

I'd describe my lumbar pump kinda like when you do a bunch of curls and get a wicked bicep pump/burn... kinda like that, but right on the verge of cramping.

If you're feeling this after deadlifts, I'd suggest checking your form to make sure you're following through with your hips and humping the bar--not just squeezing the hell out of your glutes at the lockout posistion.

No, I dont get it from deadlifts. Just from SLDLs, pullthroughs, good mornings, reverse hypers.

Oh, and I know its a pump not a strain because it goes away afterwards and causes no pain, unless ive done excercises that are high-rep and use the lowerback (ie.. I would never get it from a 1rm good-morning or anything like that).
